That's another reason I'm fine with him leaving. Even if he duplicates his 2022 regular season in 2023, I'd still be terrified to see him on the mound in Game 1 of any of the series. Framber was by far our ace in the postseason with Javier a very close 2nd. Verlander shouldn't even start til Game 3 at the earliest.
I’m good with this. I was torn on spending that kind of money but was leaning to not do it. If we knew for sure the Astros would get close to what JV gave them when healthy you do it. There is just know way of knowing that for sure, and odds say it won’t happen. I think JV needs that edge, something to test him and this is his next test. It’s hard to bet against him when he has something pushing back on him. I appreciate JV’s time here. What a great ride. I wish him all the best except when it comes to facing the Astros.
Great for JV! I’m very happy for him. He gave us some of his best years, and now some other team can pay him his bonus. Happy for the astros too….way too much money to pay an old man for his last (at least last significant) contract.
I'd like to thank JV for his service. With the way our roster is presently constructed, bringing JV back as a top priority (or even at all) didn't make sense. That's just how the baseball business goes sometimes. I'm glad he's going to the NL.
Ive always found him kinda annyoing. I think he still pushes the Astros agenda though, since they are still a powerhouse and he stays pretty unbiased.
I tend to agree. I think that’s was more about the player option for year 3 than the salary the first two years. Although I think the Astros probably didn’t go above 80 for 2 years (with taxes, etc, I’m guessing that was competitive).
Good luck. He got 2 rings here huge part of that success. I'll always remember him coming out of the Dugout versus The Dodgers saying this isn't effing over. Thanks JV. Now the young arms are going to get a chance to really step up.
As much as people keep bringing up his "WS failures...", he was the best starting pitcher for both sides in that 2017 WS.
