No - you'll never have all the facts. The only person who will ever know the full story is Justin Reed.

I'll form an opinion based on the facts I have and then adjust as necessary if other facts present themselves. That's the beauty of opinions - they can change.

And neither one of those players will probably be on the roster at the start of the season.

you act like the rockets or any other nba team has never cut a player because he had a contract. does the name matt maloney ring a bell, how about charlie ward, brian shaw, stacey augmon, clarence weatherspoon, and ryan bowen, to name a few?

i can assure you that if the rockets can't trade him, they will indeed eat his salary and waive him.

Sucks to be you then.... ;)

But no for real, was I the only one that was thrown off when they first read this article since in the opening line it says he was "released"? Wasn't sure if that just meant released from prison, released from the Rockets or both.

Common, people, it was an ounce -- a minor misdemeanor. The arrest is not good, but it is no big deal. At least he wasn't vicking around, which would really get Les Alexander's hair in a fro. Half the board probably has that much at any given moment.

BTW, I'm not excusing it. I'm just being realistic.

When was the last time the rockets paid LT? If they waive him they still need to cut salary and that could mean trading a player like Luther for nothing.

from hooroo's postings, a player he thinks the rockets are going to keep on the roster because he has two years remaining on his contract.

(Another) arresting development & roster decisions

The reaction to the news Wednesday that Rockets forward Justin Reed was arrested was likely pretty universal.

    "Who's Justin Reed?"

His arrest, on a misdemeanor mar1juana charge for possession of less than an ounce, will likely not impact his Rockets career in any way. He probably was never going to have one.

The Rockets, however, did not need the headache. Luis Scola was the MVP of FIBA Americas. Yao Ming is back on the court. Players are beginning to return to Houston for Toyota Center workouts. The last thing the Rockets wanted was a moment's of attention spent on Justin Reed's arrest.

Part of the deal in which the Rockets acquired Mike James, Reed was a longshot to make the roster. The subsequent moves have made the Rockets overcrowded and over the luxury tax line. The Rockets have 16 players signed to guaranteed contracts. Dikembe Mutombo and Carl Landry would make 18. Bob Sura and Mike Harris have partially guaranteed contracts.

Even after the Rockets pay the remaining $1 million guaranteed on Sura's contract, that would make 19 signed players, 17 with fully guaranteed deals.

Unless the Rockets can make a roster-trimming deal, which is increasingly unlikely as we get to the Oct. 1 start of camps, they will have to be paying players that are not on their team. Reed had a better chance to fit in when he was acquired. Since then, Bonzi Wells decided to come back and Steve Francis was traded to and bought out by the Trail Blazers. For that matter, it was before the draft when the Rockets bought an early second-round pick (Landry).

Wednesday's news did not help his cause, but he was a long shot before that.

The more difficult questions surround Rafer Alston. His two arrests make him more difficult to move, even if the allegations in the second incident seem dubious. With the Rockets' acquisitions of James, Francis and Aaron Brooks, Alston knew someone would be "the odd man out," and seemed to believe it was him.

The Rockets did not consider it a high priority to move him, but were certainly hoping he was a surplus asset to be used in a deal. Now, they can go into camp and probably the season with Alston on the roster and let Rick Adelman sort through the point guards.

Alston might not be thrilled with going from the starter playing heavy minutes in 82 games last season to getting a thin slice of playing time, but he is different from the other points and is generally good teammate. Or the Rockets could seek a deal, any deal that trims the roster by one point guard and two arrests. With $15 million left on his contract, they are unlikely to simply release him, an option with Reed, Sura, Harris and maybe John Lucas III.

Either way, they face difficult choices, even though I imagine they are about to get a whole bunch of advice.

Since so many asked, I checked on the alternate uniform question.

There are no plans for a third uniform next season, and by now, plans would have been made.

As much as I consider the question a non-issue, I'm fine with the Rockets sticking with one home and one road uniform. In fact, I tend to think a third uniform is nothing more than another way for teams to squeeze a few bucks out of fans. (Though I was happy to learn that the drastically oversized Steve Francis uniform my son wore when he was 12 fits perfectly now that he is 16.)

There are things I think could be better about the current uniforms. I would like the lettering to be larger. I think it should say 'Houston' on the road uniforms. But these are the uniforms. If the Rockets said they would change the uniforms to whatever I thought was best, I would say they should keep them just as they are because when it comes to logos and uniforms, change is not necessarily a good thing.

Changing every few years is small-time and desperate. It kills tradition. I watched SMU and Texas Tech the other night. I have spent many, many days and nights in both schools' stadiums. Now, when they show up on national television, I can barely recognize them.

The Rockets uniforms are pretty clean and distinctive. There's no reason not to stick with what they've got. It's not as if they are wearing striped pajamas with an idiotic cartoon logo.

Aww shucks. I was hoping that it was the Rockets who released him, but it was just the jail :(.

In any case, this was a great PR move on his part. First, he handcuffs the Rockets by making himself untradeable, and secondly he reminds everyone that he's still on the team. Maybe this was his way of saying, "Buy out my contract so I can sit on my couch all day and smoke pot!!!"

i doubt he play even 1 minute the entire season. Chances are he be out of the team as we have too many players in our roster. A trade or a buy-out.
