Somebody tell Justice that there is no category such as "community work" on the NBA court. If we look at this trade based on community activity, we got an ABSOLUTE STEAL from Memphis. Tell Justice to keep the conversation about sports instead of branching out into one of his boring, unrelated stories/experiences.

Did he get his job via nepotism?

Seems like about 1/2 the people on this forum could be a better sportswriter, at least pertaining to the Rockets.

you guys are missing the point, he's validating his opinion based on some opinion of a fan. the guy is supposed to be a professional. people on this board get ripped for pulling that. he's writing for a newspaper.

who's cares what justice has to say? it'll change a month into the season when gay starts proving that he's one of the best young talents in the league putting up good numbers and we're stuck with battier, who'll be solid but won't make you forget you traded away a future all-star.

Come on guys! He is human. We all flip-flop.
And yes, maybe he is not supposed to behave the way he does in certain instances, but come on, how many of us have had a knee jerk reaction to something we heard or read about ourselves and regretted it later (or not). You just have to take the good with the bad sometimes.
Out here, the writers for the LA Times are notorious for flip-flopping.

"It's pretty disappointing to have to go all the way to Memphis to find someone who gets it. I hope all of you are proud of yourselves."
    -Richard Justice

I think the trade is a horrible move, but I have no problem with people disagreeing with me.

However, I hate that post by Justice because he basically comes across as a condescending a-hole.

Yeah, but how many times you seen Bill Plaschke or J.A. Adande write the editorial equivalent of flipping the bird to their readers?

Justice: "Whoa, boy! I'll bet some of you people feel pretty dumb right about now."

"Whoa, Boy"? I'm surprised he didn't add a "YEAAAHAAAWWWW!!!!!!" at end of that sentence. *shoots two six guns in the air*

Does the Chron recruit their writers from a rodeo convention?

Pls define rebuild. As far as I know, rebuild means developping young players! With the big contracts of Yao and TMAC, that's the only way since rookie contract is much much under the league average. This is why scounting is so important in NBA. People always envy the success of Spurs. Hello, Spurs is a great sconting team to begin with. No look at Rockets. All the players drafted by Rockets. Only Yao Ming and Luther Head are in the team. And Yao Ming is a sure thing. So that leaves us Head. Now come the draft. Through luck, a young stud falls to us. Now what do we do? Trade him away to a division rival. Just brilliant!!!

I agree. What kind of "professional" journalist says that. I woudn't want some drunk bozo at a bar talking like that to me. Can he not respect the opinion of others?

I love this from today article.

The Rockets aren't rebuilding. Their best two players — McGrady and Yao Ming — are 27 and 26, respectively. They're in the prime years of their careers. It's time to win.

    Yet his ending statement concludes.

Even with Battier and James, the Rockets won't be as good as San Antonio and Dallas. But they may have closed the gap enough to make it interesting next spring.

So even though the Rockets need to win now, he doesn't think that the Battier and possible James signings will be enough for Houston to beat S.A. and Dallas in the Western Conference.

Well just great then, mortgage the future for a no-win present. Genuis.

I agree. That is pretty funny.
I realize that it was a pretty immature thing to say.
I guess that I have just not been reading his stuff as long as some others, so I don't have the whole history.

sounds to me like Justice works for the Rockets instead of the Chronicle.

I wonder if the rockets approved of his column befoe he sent it to press.
