If a Mchale can bring 1 thing to our table- It would be some F@!#! respect! - it may be what we need to get some GD DMN stars to play for us. - Get the players in, and then get rid of him later.
I believe 8/10 were former players tho only one an HOF player (Wilkins). Former players tend to make great coaches, I think that respect from players has alot to do with it.
KABOOM! Great crackback! The reason there's not more superstar players coaching to NBA stardom is because they already made their hay and they already made their name. Most of them can make in one year off endorsements and appearances more than a top notch NBA coach can make in 3 years. So, why would they hassle with that. They loved the game and became superstars. Bill Russell .661 winning percentage and 2 titles Larry Bird .687 winning percentage and 1 Eastern Conference Title (Coach of the year 1998) Lenny Wilkins .537 (Coach of the Year 1994) A Top 10 all-time NBA coach Don Nelson .557 winning percentage (Coach of the Year 3 times) A Top 10 all time NBA coach
I'd hate to be a downer, but after watching these playoffs, I really am going to miss Rick A. He's probably one of the best offensive coaches in the history of the league. Can you believe we were scoring at the rate we were without a true superstar?? Watching OKC and Chicago, with their supposedly "boy genius" coaches just run disgusting isolation plays all day into the teeth of set defenses is painful. I kept thinking during tonight's game, "oh man, thank god we have a guy who can manufacture points with ball movement and sharp cuts that loosen up a set D." Then I remembered that he was let go because we want to groom some kid. Kid coaches are a dime a dozen. Hall-of-famers are not.
