All of this to allow a NBDL coach to sit in as an assistant to be groomed for the future? This is glorified horsesh!t! McHale found a way to make a pitiful franchise even more pitiful. They should have went back to Van Gundy.
Supposedly that was an agreement between the owner of the Wolves (Taylor) and Smith's agent... not McHale's call.... Don't know if it really matters, as McHale would not be a GM here... Really question is if he is a good coach or not, and I do not know the answer to that question.
Apparently you never paid attention... Justice has done the same thing with the Rockets and Astros. He swings from the nuts of an organization as long as they are "good" to him, and he feels like it.... the guy changes his mind all the time. Honestly, his opinion is worthless, as know one knows what he really thinks... plus he is not exactly a basketball guy.... I am not looking forward to the inevitable sweaters and bad hair cuts we will endure seeing McHale on the sideline.
At least we can play a new theme song before games... The Munsters. Here are some scenes from past K-Mac interviews. <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/uw5FbfdnLT4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
congrats on Kevin McHale being the newest member on clutchfans. right now, look at the bottom of the page, newest member.
As in ... assistant coaches-in-waiting this go around perhaps? So McHale being listless and sitting on his ass delegating to others might possibly get himself a coaching job.
I think the assistant coaches will be the key in this hiring IF it is Mchale. Good assistants can be just as important to a team as the head coach. Guys like M Elie or S Cassell could be very good on the bench and at practices for a young team to help with development. It will be interesting to see what staff they put together.
Yeah, I could easily see Sam being one of the lead assistants. I wonder what his relationship is like with McHale from their time together in Minnesota. If we hire McHale, I will definitely wait to see who the assistants are before I get excited or disappointed.
Must be said that he has now more head coaching experience. A little bit, but he had nothing while he was coaching Carter...
There is a myth that needs to be called out: A former great player would command respect from the players and attract FAs. The fact is, none of the top 10 winningest coaches were ever great players.
