His point was in his post. AA players don't often jump straight to the majors, and the reasons were clearly outlines in his post.
What's the problem with criticizing Jeff Kent. The Astros are sucking arse and he dogged it on a play. Oh yeah, this is not far removed from grabbing an umpire. The guy may have it out for kent, but I really don't see what the problem with this column is. I don't get how some of you say that Justice is blaming Kent for this team's problems. He's just saying they might as well start overhauling for the future. Why not? Its not like they are going to make the playoffs.
In my estimation, I would say at least, I repeat at least, another 10 million to the payroll would make things easier; I mean, we are talking about the wealthiest owner in the game. But that's not all that makes him a cheap skate.
Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot I had to introduce myself on a message board. I'm Preston and I'm an Astros fan, won't you join me?
As much as I have hopes of a miracle finish and snatching the wild card from the Cubs, I can't see it happening. So the next best thing is for the Astros to plan for next season. They need to get Clemens back next year. Oswalt, Miller and Petite fully fit. Hernandez promoted. The bullpen needs people who can pitch consistently and provide quality relief. Position player wise- Beltran must be re-signed. You don't get many opportunities to get a young talent who will be an MVP one day. There is no quick fixes with a middle-tier budget, two HOFers not in their prime and personnel due some increases. I also think a change in management would be good to bring in new ideas, directions and philosophy. Maybe they can also get Bobby Cox out of Atlanta . That coach is a winner!
OK, so what do you expect him to write about? Answer me this: How would you try to make chicken salad out of the chicken sh*t that is this year's Astros? After all, you can only write so many Jeff Bagwell fluff ("he's giving it all he's got captain, he cannot give it anymore") articles before you start throwing up.
There's no problem with criticizing Kent. I've criticized Kent, too. I guess I just see every Justice article as a personal crusade FOR "his guys" and persona crusade AGAINST the guys he doesn't like. That gets tiresome. So if you're just reading this article, your post is probably right. It's that it's taken in the aggregate with his other posts that draws this reaction to it. Yours Truly, Chris Duhon
You haven't got it yet? Their "schitck" is to bash Justice (despite him being right), because it's easier to place the blame there rather than where it should be and is. They are living in a fantasy world, where the people they like can do no wrong.
Oh no, you'll just redirect the bashing towards Justice, despite him being right about Kent dragging ass out there, and say he is pinning the weight of the teams problems on Kent's shoulders, which he wasn't. I don't mean this in a bad way, but it seems to me that you guys are in some sort of a state of denile.
This article wouldn't be so bad, if it was the first of it's type. Justice was already talking about benching Kent in May, when he was in the middle of a long hit streak. He hates the guy. He shifts blame on him for that reason alone. As Nick mentioned, you'll never see a Justice article where he talks about Bagwell hurting the team with both his play and his contract. That's because Justice worships him. A lead writer for the Chronicle should not have such an obvious bias. I'm not even a Kent fan, but when a guy talks out of his ass he needs to be called on it. Also, Roy Oswalt did not skip AAA.
How come Justice isn't calling out Beltran?? Beltran doesn't exactly hustle it out on infield groundouts. Justice just wants to make an example out of Kent. The reality is, with the exception of 4 or 5 players, you can make an example out of the whole team. Why single out Kent??
