    Macbeth,

It is not his offense that is not ready, it is his defense and rebounding.

He has looked lost out there and journeyman players are killing him on offense and the glass.

Ming needs to play more aggressive, and when he does, the minutes will come.

if he plays more aggressive, he'll get more fouls...then rudy will sit him for foul trouble, right?

    Verse,

FOULS !!! You have got to be kidding....the kid plays 8 minutes a night....who cares if he gets fouls.

He SHOULD be getting fouls, be aggressive, get some fouls, that is the way to learn.

Rudy should tell him to go in, play as hard as you can, and do not worry about fouls.

If he fouls out.....so what !!!!

Just play hard, right now, he is playing scared, and I know it is because he is a rookie in a new country and trying to fit in....I am patient, I know it will take time.

However, he has to EARN the time on the court....we need a monster in the middle not a docile lap dog.

    :)

Yes, agressive but also smart enough to get away from fouls. Like Mailman and Dennis Rodman. They are the role models in this perspective.

Hakeem got into foul problems a lot when he was a rookie...it just takes time......but put that time to good use....be aggressive out there.

I don't understand what happened to Yao's shot blocking ability.
He should still be able to block some shots. Is he totally lost on the court?

I don't know. Yao Ming is used to be a major part of his team's offense. When you feel like an odd man out in the offense, it's hard to stay focused even in defense.

It's not like he has been a defensive specialist all his life. Some players can just come in and focus on playing defense and all the other "little things." Ming, on the other hand, has always been the best player of the team (best of the league, for that matter). It's hard to adjust to his current role.

But you see, that's the problem for Yao. He thinks that he must block every shot.
But because players are faster, he can't keep up with them. So, at this
time he's has to learn discipline.

Yao's lateral movement is subpar. They have strength routines that help
with this. But it takes weeks/months. Once that is taken care of he can
start working on his vertical jump. See, he wont be able to block any shots
if he's always making the block on their side, or over-the-back.

At the same time, Rudy's got to teach Yao some discipline. Don't grab the
cookie in the cookie jar! For guards it's very tempting to "reach" when someone
drives by you: FOUL! Well, for centers, it's very tempting to jump and block shots
over-the-back: FOUL! This would be easy for him in China because the
players aren't as fast. But here he's not fast enough to keep up with them.
It's all about positioning and speed.

Right now he's just reactionary. He causing silly fouls.

He'll be able to pick and chose his time to block in the future.
He'll start to learn which ones he can block and which ones he can't.

    Verse,

Playing more aggressive would be fine for someone that already had the
speed and quickness. But Yao doesn't have this yet.

He would just pick up more fouls faster.

You know, for a guy who isn't supposed to be able to rebound, he's grabbed 18 of them in 70 minutes.

    48 * 18 / 70 = 12.34 rebounds every 48 minutes.

Actually, this is one part of his game that's doing quite all right.

    David.

Windandsea read somewhere that his ankle was still bothering him so he can not get any lift, but he refuses to the IL because he doesn't want to appear that he is afraid to play shaq.

Right now Shawn Bradley is a better player than Ming is. Ming is not as far along as many people thought he was and looks to be a project. He has the talent but needs lots of work and hopefully he will get there someday. Some people need to stop ridding Ming's jock because it's clear that they are not rockets fans but simply Ming groupies that don't have the teams best interest in mind. Why don't you leave this rockets bbs and go get on a Yao Ming message board.

The only thing won't happen is Steve dishes out 10 assist. Maybe the lump sum entire season .
