I've had a similar experience Dadakota. The irritating thing (as I see it) is that the BAC limit in Texas is so ludicrously low that one or two beers can screw you over. Not to mention that since there is no bloody public transportation and everything in Houston is at least 30 minutes away from wherever you are - driving is damn near impossible to avoid unless you blow a ton of money on cabs.
Rhad, I usually take taxis when I have been out parusing the town on business etc....however, I purposely stopped drinking around 9:30 or 10pm so that I could drive home. I felt fine behind the wheel, but when you get pulled over, you never know if you are getting someone that might be over zealous. And, truthfully, the walk with your hands at your sides and take 9 steps forward heel to toe and then turn around and take 9 steps back heel to toe was very hard, and even this morning it is difficult. Still.....I feel I got lucky......I could be posting this as Bubba's love slave in the drunk tank ! DD
i try to go by the "don't break more than one law at a time" theory. speed OR drink... know what i'm sayin'? however, i do not consider "open container" and "DWI" to be two separate violations... gosh...why's everyone so serious...??? seriously, DD, we should probably be more careful. i know a couple of folks who have been hurt or killed by the negligence of a drunk driver.
Understood. If I get that feeling that "I'm going to be drinking too much too drive" I make sure someone in my group is going to slow/stop or I will. Exactly. My favorite is when the ******* cop makes you do it dead sober on the side of 45 in front of a hot girl you're trying to impress. That was a long time ago, but it still irks me.
so you hate cops? and you've never encountered a good one? is it possibly b/c every time you've encountered one you were doing something illegal, and i'm not talking about minor traffic violations? and if you're pissed off at them for pulling you over for speeding, please. i'm not gonna say every cop is "good". i've run into a few cops and have never had a problem with any of them. they're stern in their commands b/c they have to be. cooperation is a much easier road to having the issues resolved than blantantly "standing up for your rights". i've been pulled over for speeding 20 miles over the limit and got a warning all b/c i was honest with him. so, it pays to be nice.
after seven drinks over the course of a day, I'd be more worried about falling asleep at the wheel versus being intoxicated behind the wheel... afternoon drinking makes me sleepy...
Knew I'd get a response like this. I didn't always hate cops. I used to just be annoyed by them, but I accepted the fact I was justly being punished for speeding, or parking illegally, ect. Always thought they had an attitude problem too, a "holier than thou" sorta vibe. But I had a recent experience that really changed my perception of them. I don't have time to tell the story now, but it was enough for me to lose any respect I once had for law enforcement. And, BTW, I've never showed any kind of attitude or disrespect in the encounters I had. I'm always extremely respectul, "Yes, sir, yes, ma'm." And have done whatever they told me to do. And I'll continue to do so. Doesn't mean I can't have an extremely negative opinion of them. Like I said, I concede that there are good cops somewhere out there. It's too bad that a few scumbags had to ruin it for the rest of them. I also find it kinda funny that I've never had any friends who are in law enforcement. It takes a certain kind of person to choose a career in law enforcement. It seem it's usually soemone who enjoys a power trip and having authority. Not the type of person I'd want to be-friend.
Congrats on beating the system. Doesn't mean you were doing the right thing drinking and driving (and speeding) when you could easily afford a cab to take you home and avoid any risk to yourself or others. But again, grats.
My brother was killed by a drunk driver. Big difference between him and DaDa was that he was at .13 and driving 80 mph in the emergency lane.
A college buddy of mine who is from Pakistan and a professional golfer now, told me that he used to drive drunk all the time in college. When he would get pulled over, he would pretend he spoke no English. The officer would then get frustrated and just let him go. Maybe you can pretend you are German next time.
LOL, I'm sure that's the only reason cops pull over drunk drivers. To "up their DWI count." It probably has nothing to do with all the people that are killed by drunk drivers every year. Quite a racket those evil cops have going on.
What street was it? There are some in the area with limited access and esplanades that clearly should be at least 40, and probably 45, but are 35 for some bizarre reason. When I go down Davis Lane, for example, I use the freakin' cruise control because it's almost impossible to keep from speeding, and I see people pulled over for speeding there all the time. (Davis, between Escarpement and Mopac)
Deckard it was right in front of the old power plant on 1st street heading out to Mopac from downtown. As to whether or not I was at the limit or not, I don't know....I felt ok, was not impaired really, but you just never know what the test results would see. I feel for everyone that has experience with drunk driving, I just don't think I was drunk, but it was not my opinion that mattered at that moment. DD
This is the look on Dakota's face win he saw the flashing lights: I rarely drink alcohol, but this thread has at least made me aware of how low the legal blood level is here in Texas. You could take a heavy dose of NyQuil and fail the sobriety test.
Take a heavy dose of Nyquil and you're probably more likely to get into an accident than if you were at .08. I realize you're making a point though and not suggesting driving after taking Nyquil.
the point is alcohol effects your ability to make judgements, especially your own opinion about whether alcohol is effecting you or not there is plenty of science to show minimal alcohol consumption effects your decision making ability.....ie the skills required to drive perhaps regret instead of claiming some sort of escaping victory is what people have a problems with Dak stay safe and if in doubt get a cab
