there is a good bus system here in austin but the buses don't go anywhere close to where i work. i wish i could use it to get to work but i can't.
I know how you feel... I used to try to use the buses there when I could, even though I had a car. But they don't go to a lot of the places of employment that aren't downtown. They quit running to a lot of the suburbs fairly early in the evening. And finally... outside of a few urban neighborhoods, people look at you weird for walking down the street a few blocks just because you're headed to the bus stop or don't want to use all that gas just to run a nearby errand. There seem to not be many pedestrians. Most of the environmentalists in Austin appear to be preaching about it from the comfort of their cars. (And don't even get me started on some of the obnoxious guys in north central Austin... they will honk their horns, look at you, etc. as you walk down the street even if you're wearing winter clothing or a huge oversized T-shirt... and obviously going somewhere and not looking to get picked up... of course, they would probably leave you guys alone. )
awesome. how has it gone from 2.19 to 2.44 so damn fast? i mean the 2.19 to 2.35 jump was fast, and just as i was about to cave and buy a full tank i get hit up with 2.44. this is craziness.
rather than starting a new thread, reviving this one. SPOILER ALERT: Fill up your tanks NOW. Gas about to be $3 from a close source in the OIL industry now that the crude oil barrel hit $70. It makes sense. Fill up today or tomorrow you will be sorry! I told you you should have bought a HYBRID instead of an SUV. But you wouldn' lissen'... look a ju now...
Yes, because as we all know if you fill up NOW you'll never have to fill up again and pay for $3 gas. lol. Hey, my energy funds and stocks are still trucking along... they're paying for my gas.
Friday, I filled up close to 16 gallons of 93 (my Z demands it, heh) and it was $44 bucks and some change. The sad thing is I was in my 20's when it was less than a dollar (at least for 87).
no you don't pay more for bottled water. you're comparing apples to oranges. A gallon of bottled water on avg: $.90 (as low as $.60) a gallon of cheap gas on avg: $ 2.60 If you pay $2.00 for a 12oz bottle of water, you're paying for laziness/convience.
My co-worker got an email today saying that gas is going to shoot up 40 cents/gallon because of Hurricane Katrina. It was one of those "I heard it from my uncle's mother in law's boss's niece" type e-mails. I told her I thought it was BS. Could gas prices shoot up like that so soon after a catastrophic event?
Yes, it's called gouging. Though I wouldn't expect it to happen. The market for gasoline has become too diversed.
I bet you'll say: "DAMN, I should have filled up the last time I could below $3/gallon. " I am not panicking. I am simply urging people to get the last of the CHEAP gas. We may not see it go $1 again like it was when I came to this country ('86), but we will see it go down again. If you could pay for something cheap right now, and pay for it the least amount of times at a very expensive price, wouldn't you buy it now?
I revived it. *bad SwoLy-D... BAD!* I didn't see the need for just "warning of 31 more cents". Sorry, man.
2.80 for regular in the nation's capital. Cab drivers are pissed, I wouldn't be surprised if a few lose it when it edges closer to $3. Meanwhile, i've pretty much given up on driving unless I have to. If shopping center is 25 miles away, it means I'm paying $6 to get there. Therefore, buy what I want online, pay shipping of $5-$8, I usually save time and money, extra bonus for items on sale and super bonus if I find a coupon online (90% of the time, I do). But if USPS raises their prices, I'm screwed. I've also stopped burning crosses in people's yards. The price for the gasoline is too much and other flammable liquids just don't have that soothing aroma.
