Where? Quizno doesn't charge. I do quizno any day of the week over subway. I do subway only when I am hungry like a dog and only choices are hamburgers and subway. Subway does calm me down morally in that siutation.
Now I'm hungry. Thanks a lot. I'll have to go get a foot long meatball marinara with pepperni on herbs and cheese with a chocolate chip cookie, a strawberry cheesecake cookies, and a bottle of water.
I really do understand your position and don't have a problem with it but taking into consideration the type of person most likely working the counter, you probably completely blew their mind when you asked for the discount. Those jobs are set up to where the less thinking an employee has to do the better . My guess is that the worker assumed you were trying to cheat them (even though you weren't) and they were trying to figure out how you were doing it. At that point all their brain cells were focused on what you were doing, not looking at the logic behind it. It is exactly why I order the cheeseburger the way I do. Is it illogical, yes. Do they look at me like I am nuts, most of the time. Do I get my order right almost always and pay the cheaper price, absolutely.
Because ur expecting a total stranger who hates his job to go out of his way and do a favor for you. If you don't want any meat on your sandwich then you have to order the veggie sandwich. Because the owner of the establishment is also cheap and wants to make money. He/She can't maximize their profits if they keep doing random customers favors.
Well, technically both he and you are cheating the system. You're getting a food item that costs one amount for a cheaper price. Not saying it's a bad thing. Just pointing out that it's not actually a fair price. Not all food service people are idiots. More than likely she understood what was happening, but wanted to make sure that she didn't get in trouble with her manager for giving a discount she's not authorized to make.
seriously, if you wanted nothing but veggies, might as well go to a salad bar or buy a salad. Working at Subway sucks enough, but you want to go there and argue with the workers? what if he/she gets fired because of you??
All the people demeaning and assuming that people that work in food service are incapable of logic are assholes.
Completely off topic, but did you take that bet yet? The one if you lose you change your name to Trolltown??? Had to ask, I find that name hilarious.
Having worked in the food industry before, I really dont reccomend giving the food handlers a hard time. You are right about the pricing being wrong but you are wrong in expecting to get the $5 exception price every time. You should be writing to corporate headquarters about that kinda issue.
For the continuation of big consumer business, the image must always remain more important than the reality of a situation. All advertising depends on this distinction, and advertising is the strongest force in shaping our culture right now. So, while the reality of this situation is that a veggie sub is not only cheaper in materials, and simply a version of any other sub minus the meat, the image that a handful of subs are special that day becomes important in establishing the image of the business - that each sub is a distinct and whole named product on its own and not just a collection of ingredients that are common to the majority of the subs offered. Note that this image familiarizes customers with the products, creates the illusion of a great variety of features, and expands the perceived "options" available to customers who choose to eat at that location. People who are unwilling (as distinct from unable) to make this distinction between image and reality usually fall into two distinct categories. 1. Those who do not care one way or the other, but simply follow orders. 2. Those whose position in society is dependent upon the cultivation of a particular image that, typically, has very little correspondence with reality. As a general example of this dynamic, consider an internet poster like bigtexxx. bigtexxx spends a lot of time, almost every post he makes, creating a specific image that he hopes readers will believe has a corresponding reality. A perceptive person may ask themselves ... why does bigtexxx spend so much time cultivating this image on the internet? It's the same as advertising - the image must always remain more important than the reality of the situation. An image is easy to manipulate, to insinuate into another person's consciousness, and is easy to deny should the conflict between image and reality ever become too apparent (i.e. all the times you hear someone get busted for something and argue along the lines of "it just looks like [thing they got busted for].") So, to sum up - as all consumer business operates, and in this particular case, as Subway operates - people (like bigtexxx) and organizations (like Subway) frequently invest a great deal in cultivating a particular image that often does not correspond directly to reality. The magnitude of that investment frequently corresponds to the degree of dissimilarity between image and reality. I hope you have enjoyed this analysis.
