I'll be highly surprised if he exercised his option. Despite his season with the Rockets, I feel certain he'll get a better offer than the year he could spend with us. Even if he could command no better than equal money, he's sure to want to spend that year on some other team where he can have an opportunity to play better. Even for less money, he's better off elsewhere where he can show he's better than his year in Houston showed. His talent didn't go away, he just needs a team organized in a way to let him use it. And, if he did exercise the option, it isn't that big of a deal. It's a small contract. He can be traded or cut and it won't hurt too much.
i just had a scary thought, too: what if the Rockets have to rely on their "bench" for more than 10 points in a game?
