I used to work at Texas A&M. After the Virginia Tech shooting they implemented something called code maroon. They will text you when something like this goes down if you sign up for it. http://codemaroon.tamu.edu/.
I get those texts still (graduated awhile back). Every time I get one my heart sinks a little, even though I am not there. They are never big though, obviously. But just seeing that code maroon message. Scary.
