Hope this one doesn't let me down. Reno Miami wasn't as good as I was hoping, but it was still pretty solid. Felt like the plot was too stupid and they just should have kept it like a long episode instead of trying to stick to that tired old cliche movie story line template every comedy uses. On a side note, I saw "Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny" the other night and it pretty much r0x0r3d. I recommend muy mucho.
Dude, I just saw that...LMAO...that was funny...and uh, no we're not gay, not that there's anything wrong with that... btw, there's nothing wrong with two guys going to the movies together...oh wait...
The question is.. are there any nudity worth seeing? Violence + Nudity = Best Picture ...speaking of which, where are all the spoilers??
Actually I do think there is something wrong with being gay. If I was OK with it I'd be in Austin right now instead of Dallas...I'm spending good money associating myself with extreme conservatists. But yeah, I actually want to see it at the IMAX. I do recall seeing one around town. It was either off of 635 or the Turnpike, can't remember which one. We'll figure it out.
I think it's 635 and Webb Chappel...I'd only be able to see it tonight, but I'm sure its too late...I can't f'n wait...
Uh, the Spartans were/are Greek. Do you mean the Athenians? Before you go, read this book... it's great... Gates of Fire: An Epic Novel of the Battle of Thermopylae By Steven Pressfield
No offense to anyone, but I have to call this one out... I hated 300. Honestly, Frank Miller has always been one of my least favorite comic book writers because he's got no feel for making a story interesting except to place pointless violence on top of pointless violence. His characters have little development and there's nudity for the sake of nudity ( not that I'm against this, but still... ). His villians are always boring and tailormade to get their ass-kicked; the main character is always some one-dimensional testorone-filled badass who has absolutely no weaknesses. This makes his stories boring and predictable unless you like watching hookers ( sorry, " oracles " ) and an unchallenged hero tearing apart an enemy limb to limb. Frank Miller has tanked since his days with Dark Knight Returns and Daredevil. Ever since Sin City, his stories have been nothing but different variations of Sin City. ( Don't believe me? Check out Dark Knight Returns 2 and compare it to the original ) There's no point to any of his stories. Lastly, 300 so butchered the actual event that anyone recommending this as a historically accurate account of the real event needs to study history. If Xerxes was still alive today, I'd recommend her sue Warner Bros. and Miller for slandering. And were the Persians really that bad ( visa versa, were the Spartans really that good? ). Those who like historical movies to be actually a bit accurate ( not entirely accurate, but I'm asking for generally accurate ) should avoid 300. I keep expecting someone to bring out a machine gun and Terminators from the future to pop out during the middle of these " historical events ". Boo. Rating: D- ( good visuals, hookers, violence, nothing else )
This isn't supposed to be historically accurate and anybody who goes into this thinking they are learning all there is to know about the battle of Thermopylae is an idiot to begin with.
Oski, Well, that's kind of scary then because my Art History teacher has just assigned his whole class to watch this film because the class is currently learning about Greek history. We're tested on it this Friday.
( * Where's the edit button? I don't like starting new replies everytime I want to add something... ) So anyway, there's going to be a whole bunch of students believing ancient Greece had oracle hookers and Xerxes was Prince.
Then donate. You've been here for 3 and a half years, you can pony up some coin. http://www.clutchfans.net/tipjar.cfm
My sister is taking an art history class and her prof also talked about 300 and seemed to be totally confused about who the Spartans were and the Athenians. So, any art history prof making this movie part of their class is messed up. I agree with your take on Miller btw, at least his most recent stuff, DK2 and AllStar Batman & Robin which were both just awful. You know they are going to make another movie of his based on Ronin, which I've never read. Seems the director they hired is the guy who directed Stomp the Yard (WTF???). I don't know that much about Xerxes, I never took an ancient history class in college, but my history teacher in high school was very fond of Greek history. I haven't looked at 300 in a while, is Xerxes a prince in the book and the movie? I mean, he was a Prince until Darius died. The invasion of Greece was about getting the revenge his father never got over an uprising of some Greeks the Persians had ruled over, the Athenians helped these other Greeks out and Darius swore he would get revenge.
When will you guys learn to watch the History Channel the night before a movie based on history is going to come out...
