My cost for a speeding ticket thanks to the greedy HPD on I-10 (70 in a 60) - $225.00

    Lawyer cost - $125.00

I won. Saved $100.00 and nothing on my record. The dip **** didn't even clock me. I have a VERY good radar detector, and even the laser sound from being hit didn't go off. Total scam.

Plus I was going like 67.

I missed a question on my California written test (back during my three-month residency in Cali circa 1994) because I inaccurately assumed that you shouldn't be at the speed of the traffic when you are entering a freeway.

I think you have to consider the cost benefit of this. How much will the lawyer cost and the time it takes to fight this ticket in court versus how much just paying the ticket will cost. Even if you win you could still end up spending much more time and aggravation than just paying it.

I had a similar situation a few years ago when I was cited on a charge that I felt I could beat. This also happened in a rural jurisdiction and I needed to get the cop's dashboard video to prove my case. The hoops that they were going to make me jump through, including charging me to get the dashboard video, made it not worth it. Even with the marginal increase in my insurance it was going to cost me more money to fight it even if I won than to just pay it.

You have it backwards. You're "that guy":

"Drivers should be advised that highway on-ramps are for entrance to and preparation for highway driving. When entering highways, drivers must no longer travel at the drastically reduced speeds necessary for city driving. Drivers are called upon to increase speeds to that of the highway traffic and use the on-ramp and subsequent merging lanes as a means to flow smoothly into highway traffic.

Drivers must signal, increase speed, and merge safely into the flow of traffic."

    Just got the butcher's bill:

    Speeding 163
    Fail to signal 148
    Following too closely 198

    Total 509

    I'm getting a lawyer.

If you don't have any other tickets in the last year, just ask for defensive driving and it will be wiped from your record. You MIGHT win with a lawyer, but it's certainly not a guarantee, and wasting multiple days in court hoping the officer doesn't show up isn't likely to save you any time or money either and could also result in you losing the case.

I have been in similar situation before several years back when a constable stopped me for speeding and actually said as he put his hand on the hood of my car... "I know you were speeding because your engine is hot."....

Like my engine would be cold if I was going the speed limit... I had to really restrain myself from either laughing or saying something I would regret to the constable there.

I wanted to fight it, but in the end doing defensive driving was less hassle than the alternative and no risk of losing completely in a my word vs the constable's trial.

Everything is cool in Dallas County, but Tarrant (especially Arlington) is the doors trap if DFW.

I think you can only use defensive driving for 1 offense.
Then maybe ask for deferred adjudication for the 2nd offense but then there is also a 3rd

Of course the other two are violations, especially on a highway at a higher rate of speed. Failing to signal and following too closely can lead to accidents.

You should get one, it may cost you about the same as the ticket, but it will be well worth it to pay a lawyer rather than a BS ticket.
