Just tell his parents. He needs to have his ass kicked by them in a bad way. Any good parent would much rather have an opportunity to do something about their child's problem than waking up to a surprise phone call from prison.

If they can't straighten him out, THEN go to the authorities.

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

If you must snitch, get beat like a b****.

I say this to all the people who advised ratting the dude out:

Why would somebody want to rat out their "best friend" like that? What in the hell good is that gonna do? Seriously. Do you really think prison is going to reform his friend? Then you're out of your mind. If you want to be a friend to someone, there's no way calling the cops on that person can be helpful in this type of situation. If you're just "afraid of losing" the guy, approach him. If that isn't enough for you, you're being selfish. It's his damn life. Just because he's a part of yours doesn't mean you have a single grain of prerogative in his that he doesn't allow you. And if you've approached him and still aren't satisfied, just kill him. Stab him (preferrably in the back) a couple times and be done with it.

I mean, what do you gain as a friend from sending another to prison? Do you feel good inside that you "did the right thing"? Does that make you feel like you were the better person, and subsequently, the better friend of the two? Does it clear your selfish little conscience? Does it make you feel like more of a man? Because you did your "civic duty" and got this scum off the streets? If that's how you view somebody that you call your friend, then you have problems. Maybe we should call the mental institution on you. That would be "the right thing to do" by your own definitions.

Either you folks are just naive, ignorant real-lifers; or you're just sick. Sick.

Yeah, let's go ahead and stop enforcing laws all together. I mean, everybody's a friend to someone, right? That's gotta count for something!

So you're saying a friend is a law enforcement officer?

Laws will be enforced. That's up to the law to handle. Not friends.

Recommend him to study Scientology, worship me as the Alien lord and give me half of his drug dealing money, in return I shall give him eternal bust-free protection.

That's not what I'm saying at all and you know it.

You don't think citizens have a responsibility to alert law enforcement to illegal activity?

The Alien lord Xenu is a bad guy according to scientology.

He should worship you as the reincarnation of L Ron Hubbard. (see Southpark episode)

i honestly cant believe so many people here suggest turning him in to the authoritites. that's just about the ****tiest thing you could do. these people clearly have little to no experience with situations like this, so just ignore them.

if you really think it's a big problem (pushing a lot of weight, especially hard narcotics like cocaine, X, meth, etc.) then have a talk with him.... a serious talk. tell him you'll tell his folks or something along those lines. but i'll be damned if you think turning him in to the cops is the best idea.... like someone else said - he keeps selling and his life may get f*cked; go to the cops, and his life will get ****ed.

and selling blow will definitely help you get laid. this is fact.

So basically, it's ok to break the law as long as you don't get caught and you promise to be a good boy later?

    Awesome! :D

Its a tough situation, but you have to let people live their lives they want to. He is obviously intelligent enough to know the repurcussions. Try to reason with him, but obviously he has already weighed the positives with the negatives. I "know" some drug dealers who have been in that business for a little while, collected enough money to start their own legit business, and have become successfull business people today. Drug dealing isn't that bad, its only bad if you get caught.

I agree with you 100% about the civic responsibility. But as a friend, your duties should lie with him first, in my opinion.

I apologize for reacting so passionately, but somehow this really struck a chord in me.

Agreed, in 99.99% of the time my loyalty is to my friends as opposed to law enforcement.

There's a slim chance he will quit dealing on his own (provided he doesn't get arrested or killed first). I know a guy I work with, he's in great position financially. He told me that he was a drug dealer for about 4 years from the age of 18 to 22. Then he decided to quit and go into the military. He had accumulated a very nice nest egg in the range of 100 grand from his dealing. When he went into the military he gave the money to his grandmother to invest. This was during the dot-com era and she did quite well in internet stocks. By the time he got out of the military she had worked his bankroll up to around 400 grand. Now the guy works with me but he never has money problems, pays cash for cars and such. Takes weekend trips to Vegas where he drops 5-6K like it's nothing. I'm quite jealous.

As far as I know, he hasn't been involved with dealing since he went into the service. It sure did set him up nicely though for the future.
