    absolutely

I cant believe how many in here are advocating this course of action.

What the hell kind of people are you?

A true friend doesnt turn in someone you calim as your "best" friend...appeal to them as a friend with the facts of what can happen to him....go to their family and work out a intervention...whatever it takes short of turning him in to the law.

A drug conviction(especially for selling) can have severe consequences that will follow him for life. He risks this happening anyway, but it isnt your place as someone who *supposedly* cares for this person to send him to jail.

Im shocked and surprised to see a couple of folks I used to respect advocate this...only a judgemental *sshole would do that to a friend.

I know you think talking to him will not work, but you dont ever sell out your boy. Figure something else out, but as a friend you cant hope for him to get busted or anything. You say he is a smart dude, just show your displeasure and let him know very bluntly what you think of what he is doing.

    Is he a Rockets fan?

[EDIT]: Xeno, I was completely unaware of the squirrel thread due to my brief hiatus from CF at the end of last year. You are quite a drama king.

    This does sound fake...

    Oh well

If he's pushing drugs and getting away with it, he's flirting with disaster with jail time or shady dealers/customers who carry weapons. It might be one week or one year, but the ease and instant money of dealing clouds reality as much as the drugs themselves.

Don't rat him out. Let him learn his own lesson.

    R2K,

Wow - touch a nerve there, huh? So we disagree on this which is cool but I don't see how me thinking that Xeno (if this is really true) ratting him out makes me a judgmental *******. We are talking about this guy's life here; so the worst thing that happens to his friend is that he spends time in prison. That would be better than ending up dead.

I will admit that I did make a mistake by not mentioning that Xeno should talk to him first, but if he doesn't get anywhere with that, then he should seriously consider going to the police.

Rat him out, send him to prison, then he gets out, no more scholarship and he's forced to sell drugs again, that makes sense, not to mention the ass poundings.

Dealin' is a losers game. Odds are that he get busted on the front lines, which is the only reason he's there, to protect the people above him. Or he moves up the chain, starts making real money, and the guys below him rat him out to the feds.

Drugs are like Amway, the only way to win is at the top. Your friend will get caught if he stays in long enough. And possession with intent to sell ain't no cakewalk.

Ratting him out, could get him kicked out of school, keep from getting jobs, cause something horrible to happen to him in prison, deny him opportunities for any number of things in the future, etc.

Why do that when he may be able to pull himself out of it, and get back on track, with or without the help of friends.

The guy sounds kind of unhappy, and as long as he doesn't get carried away he will eventually make a decision to cut out the part of his life that makes him unhappy.

Also talking may have an effect, but not immediately. I talked to a friend of mine who was using and selling drugs as did other mutual friends. It didn't stop him right away, but eventually it sunk in, and for his own reasons he stopped, but he later said how much it helped to have people talk to him about it. He knew they cared. If we had talked to him, and then saw that it didn't change and turned him in, his life wouldn't have gotten better it would have gotten worse.

I just think turning a friend in, even for the right reasons could have serious consequences.

    fixed.

I would consider ratting him out if he was selling heroine or some other really hard drug. If it's just pot, x or some other lightweight, then eh.

Never rat on your friends and always keep your mouth shut.

If you are obliquely asking if I have ever dealt....no I havent

but I have spent considerable time around folks that did....some of them very good friends...

Maybe this is a result of different generational viewpoints...I value good friends more than just about anything in this world, and I have very strict standards over what you do and dont do to your good friends.

    One of the things are..

You do NOT rat them out. Especially for something like this..it isnt affecting you, nor does it affect your life...the only person they are messing with is themself.

If you have objections over something harmful a friend is doing, talk to them and let them know how concerned you are for them, try to show them what can happen to them, hell bring in a family member that they trust to help you if need be...but if they refuse to listen to your reasonings and continue doing it, then you have done all that you can and should do.

Putting someone in jail intentionally with the current state of the laws on the books is not something to be taken lightly...can you handle your conscience if he were to get sentenced to 20 years(a very common mandatory penalty for dealing) and something bad happened to him in prison?

    Look at it this way..

Continuing dealing = bad things *might* happen
Put him in prison = bad things *will* happen

EDIT: as usual FB says everything I want to say...but soooo much better.
Have I told you lately how good of a poster (and human being) you are Blade?

I asked him why, and he said it gets him respect and girls. The main reason he pointed out to was that so many students at California are rich, with BMWs, Mercedes and what not that he "would be the poorest person in school" if he does not do this.

    LOL, exactly

Besides it's not like we've (or must of us have) never bought a bag here and there while in college or "hooked" up some buddies with some. If he's pushing massive amounts then he will realize the consequnces and will quit on his own.

"I would tell his parents, but that would crush them, for he is their only child and the pride of their entire family. But I also worry that just standing by and doing nothing would destroy a talent like him. Being so intelligent, he obviously knows all the risks invovled as well as what can happen, but to him, the reward justifies the risk..."
