Princess's first bashing at CCNet! Oh, I wish Lynus could see this!

I only dismiss them in the fact that I won't watch them because I don't want to watch or read something that I know I'm going to disagree with. You wouldn't read a pamphlet entitled "Republicans are Evil" for any other reason than a good laugh. That's why I don't read The Drudge Report or watch Fox News (you don't have to point out that Fox News is not that bad, I know it's not).

Likewise, I've heard things from both Matt Drudge and that I've agreed with, but I haven't jumped in here saying "see, see, I must be right, Matt Drudge even agreed with me", nor have I actually ever thought to myself that my opinion is right because they agree with me. If I have, I've done it erroneously, and I'll never do it again.

Yeah, cause you never do that.

Thanks treeman! I'm really not. Like I've said on other threads, it's been a really long bad day.

I hate to use the board for this, but treeman, check your email please! :(

This is actually the aforementioned wife/teaching assistant - I got so peeved by something I had to post myself under Elvis' username.

    Princess writes:

"I think the numbers [of African-Americans lynched] have been exaggerated."

Listen, I know how historians research this stuff. It is a particularly painstaking and arduous process which involves, among other things, travelling to various archives and counting hundreds if not thousands of police and court records, as well as reading hour upon hour of contemporary newspaper accounts and obituaries. It takes months and years. This information is, by its very nature, fragmented and incomplete - records were lost in fires, misplaced, thrown away, people didn't report the lynchings through fear or indifference... If anything, these numbers are an *under*estimate.

So, Princess, tell me. How, precisely, are these numbers being "exaggerated"? Are you implying that these researchers are dishonest? Have they made some sort of mistake in all their painstaking research? Or - no, wait, *I* get it - *you*, in your infinite wisdom, and with your clearly magnificent research, logic, and statistical skills, have managed to recheck all of their figures in your spare time. Right?

This isn't just a matter of my "opinion" being different to your "opinion." You're *wrong* about this. Wrong, wrong, wrong. And despite being a New Zealander, I am presuming to speak for all those "exaggerated" lynching victims by telling you to *bite me*.

Yours, with just the appropriate amount of scorn,
    Danielle

No, I'm going to read the book, I said I would (I'm still not buying it though, if for no other reason that it will force me to break my resolution ;) ).

If that's what you believe fine. I have no reasearch and I don't care to do the research. There are more important things to me. I never claimed to be an expert or have "infinite wisdom." But you have your "credible sources" and I have mine. So evidently, someone is wrong. If it's me fine. But as long as credible people I know are teaching what I have told you they are teaching that's fine. When THEY tell me they're wrong, I'll fully believe. Or if the entire world tells me they're wrong, I'll believe. But right now, it's your research over their's. Sorry if I don't listen to yours.

I've never denied that any of it happened. I've never said it wasn't bad or that it was good or funny.

    heeheehee :D

Thanks for posting Elvis. I'm glad someone here is as revolted as I am about some of these opinions expressed here the last few days on these topics.

Wow! Say what you will about Princess, but she is certainly upping the female poster count around here. I know I haven't been on the board this much in months. And now we've got wives commandeering their husband's user names just to get a word in.
I'm expecting a post from RM95's Girl any minute now...

If Princess is having a bad day, why doesn't she just go do something else instead of read this board?

Because I still enjoy this board. Even though you all hate me and my beliefs, I like you all (with the exception of a few). But it has been a terrible terrible day...nothing I want to discuss now, but you'll all know soon enough. Just lay of the harassment for a while please.

However, this board has kept me in a relatively good mood, so it can't be all bad. Hope you understand. :(

It's not a come-on, moe. She's had a bad day... Like a once-in-a-lifetime bad day. She'll tell you about it when she's ready.

One thing I really hate, as I'm sure most do, is the you're too young slant. Especially from one who hasn't hit 30 yet. Hell, hasn't hit 25. I'd say live a little. But then I'm slanting what I hate the most. So I just a-soon take everything he says with a grain of salt. And state that I'd much rather be in the company of my feeble-minded 80 year old grandmother. She doesn't say much anymore, but when she does it has wisdom behind it.

Princess...I hope you don't think I hate you, I hate your beliefs, not you. ;) (seriously a joke) If you ever wanna e-mail me go ahead. Like I've told you, I've gone through a rough time similar to your's (not as bad, I know), so I always have a sympathetic ear.
