Have people forgotten how stale and stagnant things had become under JVG towards the tail-end of his tenure? Would JVG even be able to coach this team without a dominant big man? I don't think he's ever coached a team without a dominant big. Although, I could be wrong (there might have been a year or two in NY without Ewing). It would be interesting to see. I'll stick with Adelman, though.
Oh...my....god Do people really not remember that we only ran 3 plays with JVG? Do people really not remember that he refused to develop young guys? Do people really not remember that he would never give Bonzi or Vspan a chance to play at all? No no no to JVG. If there must be a coaching change, forget about winning and get a guy who will drill fundamentals and properly develop young players.
Two small comments... The operative word by the OP was "fun". That word and watching a VG coached team haven't the hint of connectivty. Long, long ago...I made a very serious effort into understanding the mechanics of the stock market. One of my first "rules" of thumb for processing information was...if it's obvious to the masses, it's wrong. The poll is a case in point.
Don't let it surprise you. After a loss, everyone needs to be traded and/or fired, according to this forum. Nothing new.
Isn't that the same complaint many fans are making of Adelman now? Exactly what young players was JVG supposed to develope anyway? Some fans act like he was benching lottery picks and future hall of famers. Fact is Luther Head and Chuck Hayes both got play time as rookies, and sadly those were probably the best young players he was given to work with. As soon as those guys left to other teams both of them played at all star levels too... Oh wait both of them are out of the league now and Bonzi played even less minutes per game for New Orleans than he did under JVG and only played 1 minute more per game under Adelman. The games he missed were his own fault. I don't think changing coaches will make much difference, but some of the ideas floated about the JVG era are kind of silly, just like many of the fans who seem to think that Adelman is some how drastically underperforming with the current roster, or the fans who act like a different GM would have Lebron, Bosh and Wade in Houston instead of Miami.
I like both coaches. Look at the teams each had in Houston and injuries they had each of those years, and remember there accomplishments. JVG: TMac and Yao both playing as super stars: 1st round exits everytime. Was cheated in the Dallas Series when we had our best shot of a team that could go all the way. RA: TMac or Yao or Both out with injury almost the entire time: 22 game win streak 2nd longest in NBA History. 1 2nd round appearance bring the Mega team of LA too 7 game series, and that is without Tmac or Yao the entire series. Its obvious RA is a better coach. Give Kobe micro fracture surgery and then break Gasols feet and give the rest of the squad high ankle sprains and watch LA in the same situation. RA is a coach that can bring you 2 the championship, but you have to give him the material, which was here when he came, but injuries destroy'd it. That is not RA's fault.
Another reason you don't bring JVG back is he'll probably try and bring Mark Jackson back to play the point - you know how he loves his veteran players.
voluntarily replacing adelman with jvg would convince the rest of the league and any potential free agents that we're run by monkeys in suits.
Yao missed the last 7 or 8, Tracy? I thought he played in all of them? (might have missed a cpl early, he was certainly playing in the last 10-15)
