i honestly think the only reason the team went with an offensive minded coach was for aesthetic purposes. as a fan i was happier knowing the team will play great defense every night.

I was against dumping JVG from the start, but luckily the Rockets found a suitable replacement. I still miss the lockdown defense (even if was flawed against certain teams like the Suns), but I'm content with Adelman.

Jonathan Feigan seems thinks so, too. He said it would be unlikely for JVG to come back to the Rockets because of the history between him and management. I remember there was quite a bit of ego tripping on both sides back in 06/07.

no team can win champion with bad defence.

if we want the champion, we must bring a defence coach.

JVG is a good option, not the most suitable one.

Defensively JVG was fine, but he is a micro manager.

Still remember when it was commented that the Rockets
were a great regular season team but not built for the playoffs.
It's because they couldn't score with any consistency.

Rockets fans have short memories. JVG was a GREAT
defensive coach, but the offense sucked. And sure there
is more talent on offense now, but most of it was coaching,
or lack thereof. There was no movement and no creativity.

You may be younger than me, but the complete and total waste of the last 2 years, in which no upward trajectory was in sight before a single game was played, and none was in sight after all 82 (barring a major trade this season), has been far more soul-crushing than the early 80's era purgatory of pre-Ralph/Akeem, which lasted for about 1.5 seasons. I mean even Francis came along to buoy the tail-end of the Dream era prior to Yao's arrival.

    Now? They got nothin'.

I'll take good defense and 50 wins and a shot in the playoffs over this 35-40 win netherworld.

Cause as of right now, there's no light at the end of the tunnel, and Elvin, Calvin, Rudy, Moses, Ralph, Hakeem, Clyde, ain't walkin through that door.

Hell, Cuttino ain't even walkin' through that door.

Do you not realize we were all just as mad at Van Gundy as we are Adelman 5 years ago?
"Van Gundy doesn't know how to run an offense?"
"Why won't Van Gundy ever play the young guys?"
Losing sucks, but it's not just the Coach's fault.

Our offense was pretty slow during his tenure here but the defense was top notch. I wonder how much of the defense was Tom Thibodeau though. With Ish running point, we wouldn't have to worry about our offense under JVG. I can't imagine Les bringing him back though.

i HOPE people voting for JVG are not assuming JVG's humor and like-ability as an analyst on tv can translate to making this team better.

after all, he has been our coach before and there is a reason he is not our coach anymore. as much as i liked him, im good with adelman.

And yet we'd be in a better position than we are now.

Although history tells a different story.

I was not. I thought the biggest mistake this organization made beyond passing on Clyde Drexler for Rodney Mcray was firing JVG.

He had T-mac and Yao and squat after that. He took a crappy knicks team to the finals. And he would have taken a team of YaoMac + brooks/lowry/scola and company deep into the playoffs.

He understands playoff basketball. He came so awfully close...far closer than "Rick the Ruler". Some people measure progress by the number of rounds a team gets to.

I measure it by what I see on the court. JVG teams were far superior with inferior talent.

I wouldn't mind, but I would be interested in a coach like Nate Mcmillan. I doubt Nate would come here though.

Count me in the group that thought that JVG should never have been fired. Bring him back.

They could have Red Auerbach coach the team....they're not good. It just doesn't matter.

JVG has bashed Morey several times in the past. Not sure if they have buried the hatchet yet since Morey has proved his worth as an NBA GM but not sure JVG's relationship with the Front Office is good enough to consider a comeback.

It would be like dating your ex wife. They've moved on, it would be wierd to and look bad to go back. The organization moved on and unlikely to go back. If Adelman chooses to not come back then they most likely will look at someone fresh that nobody is thinking of.
