I like how this thread completely derailed from op asking for game recommendations to this. I guess it happens for every thread discussing videogames...

Anyways, I got a PS3 Slim about a month ago too. So far I have Madden 10, Valkyria Chronicles, GTA4, and MGS4. I like all the games but I've been addicted to Madden. Darn sports games always get me.

Anyways, the other games are good too so I recommend those too.

I don't think people get offended by preferences. Hell, I personally don't get offended by fanboy arguments, period. But I can see how people would think it is incredibly dense to declare that "the Xbox has won" and that it's "the real true winner" when the PS3 isn't even 3 years old. That's like saying a basketball game is over before halftime has even started.

I don't know exactly what you guys are arguing about here, but if you are talking sales then here in the US he's kinda right - finally selling like the competition after almost 3 years isn't exactly a 'win'.

Now, having said that, I fully expect a very nice bump over the holidays for the PS3. But as far as userbases go, it's not like you are going to see a sudden 180.

If 360 worked and had blue ray ...it would be better.

Ok, fair enough. I'm not really intending to say that the 360 is better... I truly consider them equal as SYSTEMS... but Xbox has better qualities. Those better qualities are things such as Xbox live, the accessories, and stuff like Natal which is coming up. (and Yeah Eyetoy is similar, but you know that Tech isn't the same stuff being used in Natal, I doubt that the Eyetoy really has the power to do some of the stuff that natal can do, I mean just look at the size of the freaking hardware for both and you can just see it by that.) But yeah, lets see what this PS3 Slim does for the holidays... Sony messed up early on when they were losing money for each system they were selling. If I really had time to play video games, I'd probably be doing so. The only reason I'm on here is when I take breaks from my studying, my PC is right here.

Who's getting offended? You're one person. I personally know a lot that have both and prefer the PS3. Sorry they're not registered here. Plus there are posters here who take the PS3 over 360 and have both.

Most I've heard will agree that the 360 is better online. Thats about the only plus I ever hear. Everything else is better on the PS3.

Does it offend you that people differ with your viewpoint? Isn't that one of the purposes of the forum?

The thread started out with a guy buying a PS3 and wanting advice on games to get. Somewhere someone thought their precious system was losing support so they chimed in on why the PS3 is an inferior system. Now we're a eight pages in trying to win an argument of opinion. You have your choice, I have mine and countless others have theirs'.

I didn't know charging $100 for hard drives and $100 for wireless network adapters is considered a good thing and a "quality".

$100 for a drive if you buy it separately or the cheapest bundle. That wireless thing is the only bad thing, and I can agree with you about that. It's now $50 though, I believe. I got mine for like $60 the first year of Xbox off of eBay.

Don't get me wrong, Natal looks interesting and I can see what you're saying about it being more developed. I just keep hearing people say how its so revolutionary and ripping Sony for always copying when MS did it with this and the Mii's or whatever the 360 avatars are called.

It looks like its more developed than the EyeToy and thats one of those things I feel like Sony dropped the ball on. Trust me I agree there are a number of things they've done wrong. Honestly though, I like the direction that the Wiimotes, EyeToy and Natal are going in, but I don't think it will make a whole lot of difference in this generation. We could be looking at the infancy of a great technology down the line though.

Wow...I'm busy for 2 days, and this thread goes crazy. Probably should just ignore it, but I do have a few points I want to make...or maybe a lot.

Although first a reply to a question that I don't believe was answered:
Pretty much. I didn't play (all of) Fallout 1 or 2, and I loved Fallout 3. You might miss some "inside" jokes and references, but that's about it. It isn't like the stories are directly related (ala MGS4 to MGS1-3...and people still could play MGS4 and enjoy it apparently).

I believe the retail version of the SOCOM game did as well. Thought that maybe another game did too, but maybe not.

(also, think you meant Bluetooth, not Blu-ray...a Blu-ray headset does sound pretty cool).

Regarding headsets...I definitely can see how it would be more difficult to play some game types due to the lack of a included headset for the PS3. Not that this makes it as good as the 360, but why don't you guys just form clans or play with people from online communities (e.g., NeoGAF), assuming you play these game types a lot? Those guys usually all have headsets, not to mention they're usually not 10 year olds that have just discovered the F word. Probably something you should do regardless of whether you play on XBL or PSN. Probably what PC gamers do. PC FPS games (including games like L4D) seem to be pretty popular online, and there isn't a headset included with every PC.

Possibly so, although I think it is probably important to point out that not all gamers care to play a lot of online games. Because of that, the price can definitely play a factor, especially since some of the advantages of XBL may not seem as important (e.g., I don't care about cross-game voice chat, or any of that stuff...I just want to play a few deathmatch games and call it a night).

If they were both free, or if both cost $50, then yeah, a no brainer that XBL would be preferred by most, if not all gamers. I actually wish MS would make XBL (or at least online multiplayer) free since it might even improve the competition between the services a bit. I sometimes feel as though Sony doesn't fully commit to some more "hardcore" features simply because they feel they don't have to since their service is free. I even keep hearing how some features have been implemented (or mostly implemented?) for a LONG time, but Sony has yet to roll them out. Of course, if they were to do that, then we'd get even more competition, and MS could work on improving things a bit too (and they aren't having to play catchup as much).

I'll admit that I haven't really kept track of what Nintendo has been doing with their online plan, especially recently. But what ideas did PSN take from the Wii?

This is a very weak argument. Some of the biggest "fanboys" I've seen owned both/all systems (or at least, they claim to own them). For example, I know a lot of people give Shane Bettenhausen a lot of crap for being a Sony fanboy (and given some of his comments, rightfully so). And he owned a 360.

(do people here even know who Shane is?  )

Guess I haven't really kept up with accessories. Even if it is better, it isn't really much of a better quality IMO. You're still probably paying more than you should for equipment that doesn't really make much of a difference.

My memory might be off, but I'm pretty sure I have seen Eyetoy demos that have mimicked some of the things Natal is doing. Maybe not as accurately, but unless Natal is 100% (or at least 99%) accurate, that probably won't matter. And it seems like they have a few kinks to work out to get there:

I do like the direction MS is going with Natal (really cool tech), but I'm just skeptical about how it will work from a practical standpoint. Even if it performs as advertised, I don't know if it will convince gamers to give it a shot. That's something that game developers will have to do. It can be hard enough to convince gamers that these new control methods will actually improve gameplay (i.e., just give me a gamepad to play a racing game instead of trying to use motion controls...or better yet, bundle it with one of those steering wheel controllers).

Wow...um...Microsoft did/is doing the same thing. That's pretty much the business model for all video game systems, except for Nintendo systems, although they occasionally take small losses from time to time.

Sony sometimes takes bigger losses up front, although that usually isn't an issue since they can drop costs a lot quicker than their competitors normally. But I think they planned on their engineers doing a much better job with the PS3. Then again, looking at the PS3 Slim, they obviously aren't doing too bad of a job.

I still would have liked a Slim with a SSD. Maybe for Slim #2.

Agreed. I guess we can see how the price drop will help the PS3 in the US, but it is probably too late for it to make a comeback. It will probably be doing good just to keep the gap the same, rather than letting it grow even larger.

(The following is not directed at Rokkit and his post)

Of course, while I am happy see the interest in sales, I'm not really sure using it as a way to say one console is better than another (and the "winner") means much, especially under these circumstances. It would be one thing if there was some huge gap in sales between the 2, as is/was the case with the DS and PS2 (or...the Wii ;)). But if it turns out to be like 60M for the 360 and 55M for the PS3 (more or less what the gap is now IIRC), then you might as well call it a draw.

(of course, that doesn't mean we can't get excited about console sales...right? Guys? ).

I leave for a day and this stuff is still going on? What in the world...

If you arent playing both systems, you are missing out on something great.

I dont see how any logical argument can be made declaring one system superior to the other. First off, they both share an enormous amount of games. Secondly, they both have awesome exclusives. Thirdly, both have strength and weakness...when you combine the two systems, you get the best of both worlds.

Its a draw! The only winners in this whole thing are the ones that play both systems. Everyone else is a big loser. :D

lol that's a bit bad luck. But if you get to break his neck from behind, and listen to him going nuts while his corpse lying on the ground with a speaker sign in the air, those voices may actually become enjoyable :D

The weird thing is, I believe the average monthly sales for both systems is approximately the same. The 360 leads in overall sales obviously, but it has also been on store shelves a year longer than the PS3.

Just thought I'd link to this: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6230777.html?tag=latestheadlines;title;3

I think this is a marvelous thing. I don't really play much online, but from everything I've read XBox owns this category. I am playing Resistance 2 to get my platinum trophy, and it's often difficult to get a decent match (3 people for a huge deathmatch map). You also play the same people over and over and over. I've also noticed that there are few people with mics, and almost all of them are assinine teenagers who talk juvenile smack, drop F bombs like they just learned how to cuss, or babble like Fran Drescher on speed. I get really irritated by racial or sexual orientation cracks. I make it a habit to mute all players with mics before entering a game to cut down on the irritation level. Glad Sony can crack down on the worst offendors.

I just got my Resistance 2 platinum last week. 3 people in a huge deathmatch map never happens. Stop trolling.

Guess it depends on what you mean by approximately the same. I just glanced at the last 12 months or so of sales, and the 360 was usually ahead by at least 40K-70K in every month IIRC (and that is with each selling around 100K-200K or so). Earlier in the year, there was more like a 100K+ difference. Still relatively in the same realm, although not as close as it once was IIRC (within say 30K, and each console "taking turns" at selling more).

The holidays is what really hurts the PS3 in the US. Last November+December, there were about 1M PS3s sold, and twice as many (2M) 360s. That's a lot of sales to make up.
