I had a PS3 for a while and had a few of the "must have" games and just didn't play it. Gave it to a friend to use as a Blu-ray player after the disc drive broke and stopped reading anything. Got it fixed for free, though. Nothing against the system, I think it's just I didn't really see it being better than my 360 except for attracting much more dust. The one thing I did notice that was significantly better was that the PS3 controllers are much lighter than 360 controllers, although I still hate the layout of the PlayStation controller and have since it first came out. I think Microsoft got the layout right with the 360 (after that horrendous controller they had when the XBox first came out). However, I think that everyone gets emotionally attached to their system of choice because of the reasons they chose it not realizing that not everyone is the same and has different priorities.
Yeah, its like everyone gets into the typical truck debate of ford vs dodge vs chevy type stuff. I've had every console since 81 and the Intellivision. I can have a timeline from the 5200,colecovision,c64 and 128,sega,sega genesis, sega cd,nintendo,64,playstation 1,2, and xbox and 360 and really its just what you like. The 360 does seem to have some durability issues, but overrall, i think its a great console for now. I wouldve thought that i would outgrow consoles since i'm almost 40, but i thought the same with rap music. I guess its just in my blood and being retired, i have alot of gametime.
I'm happy with my PS3 160GB, but i recently mostly been using it for the internet given that my laptop is currently being fixed, Im probably not going to bye another game system until the PS4 comes out or something...... -rocketblaze
I did this too when my laptop broke and was without one for a couple weeks. I actually also used it to watch nbaleaguepass, justin.tv, and even some pr0n . Everything looks nicer on the big screen.
I let my dad borrow my PS3 for a few weekends just so he could get caught up on my movies. My parents have a 42 inch plasma so he really gets a kick out of it. The only problem is that I have the PS3 controller and he cant really figure it out so I bought a Blu-Ray remote for him to use. It's basically a PS3 controller on a tv remove which doesn't help at all. I really think Sony messed up when it comes to easy access to media on the PS3. If I wasn't a tech person I'd have no idea how to view pictures, watch Blu-Ray movies, listen to music and etc. Setting up a USB stick and navigating the dash is way too complicated for the average user.
...? The XMB is ridiculously intuitive and simple to navigate, unlike the 360's new interface where you have to go hunting for stuff (shame, because the old interface was much better). The only thing I take big points off of the PS3 for as a media center is that for any new user, it's difficult to figure out how to turn it off. Whether you use the remote, controller, or the system itself, you must HOLD a button to turn the thing off. What's worse, the button is NOT labeled "power" or "on/off" on the remote. What were they thinking there?
Really? I really prefer the new one. I find the whole menu much easier to navigate than the previous.
The XMB is a very good and simple interface. The 360's is pretty good too. Overall, within 20 minutes anyone should be able to get it. As for 360 vs PS3. The PS3 is by far the better value for your money. What exactly does Xbox Live have that warrants $50 a year? PSN lets you play games, so does Live. PSN has Playstation Home as well, and even though some people say it is pointless it is good for meeting new friends and playing some minigames. Games is subjective, but the 360 is heavily skewed towards shooters while I feel like the PS3 has a broader range of exclusives. InFamous, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted etc. The ONLY thing the 360 has over the PS3 is the controller.
The controllers are good for different things. 360 controller KILLS the PS3 controller on shooters... but try playing Skate on the 360, or basically any fighting game... different story.
It's definitely worth it for me. I never play on PSN for 2 main reasons. 1) There are not that many players. Xbox Live has a much larger online community. 2) No one on PSN has mics. Some games are nearly impossible to play without mics and for other games, it just greatly enhances the online experience. There is also exclusive content and such. THings like maps and expansions generally come out earlier on the 360.
I have to admit it still kills me they never came out with the additional multiplayer maps pack for GRAW2 on PS3. But then again, that just kinda reinforces that shooters are always better on the 360 (of course, PS3 has Killzone 2, one of my favorites ever... but overall 360 definitely has the edge there). But overall, I don't play much online... and if you're not 1. in it for online, and 2. you're not an FPS junkie... PS3 is your machine, because those are the only areas I can think of where 360 is (clearly) superior.
I can somewhat buy the argument about 360 better for shooters, but even then the only one that really matters is a mulit-platform (COD MW). I can also see why some people choose the 360 controller over the PS3, but its not so big a difference where it factored into my decision at all. Anyway, I don't understand the fighting sometime. I have no interest in buying a 360 and love my PSBeast. To each their own. On someone else's point, it does suck right now because I have a que building up with games I want to play. I'm currently playing Valkyria Chronicles and Madden takes a lot of my time. After that Ratchet and Clank is next on my list followed up with Uncharted 2, Batman and Ghostbusters to name a few. On top of that Modern Warfare 2 will dominate my game playing time when it comes out. With work and other things, I don't see myself getting caught up any time soon.
tell me about it. I still have Far Cry 2 and Mercenaries 2 from last year to beat. I'm trying to limit myself for this Christmas season because I know it will be quite a while before I can stop playing MW2 and especially L4D2. But I want NBA2k10 as well as Assasin's Creed 2, Red Dead Redemption, and so much more. Just too many good games coming out.
Could've imported the game half a year ago like me Spent over 100 hours on two accounts in that game in the first three weeks, it's that goooooood. If you want a real challenge, try finishing the game solo before jumping online. Playing online makes the game a breeze because most people are veterans and know what to do to finish bosses etc easily.
Buy Oblivion and wait for Fallout Game of the Year edition. That should hold you over for a good year.
Im entering the PS3 vs. 360 debate: For those that are saying one is better than the other, I think you're nuts! I have both systems and I use both of them equally...they serve different purposes for me. If Im buying a sports game or a multi-player/co-op game (Modern warfare), I will get the game on the 360. If Im buying a single player game, I will buy the game on the PS3. I also like the PS3 exclusives a little bit more...Unchartered, God of War, Gran Turismo. Of course, I also like the 360 exclusives...therefore, I need both systems. I subscribe to Netflix. If there is a movie I can stream immediately to the TV, I use my 360. If it's a new movie that I want to watch in Blu-ray, I use my PS3. Seriously, both systems are great. I like the build of the PS3 better, but I know that if I didnt have one of the systems, then I wouldnt be whole. Heck, Im probably going to pick up the Wii with the price drop just so my girlfriend or parents can enjoy games with me as well. Edit: Just want to show a rough draft of the games that I will be buying within the next 6 months and the distribution between the two systems. [360] Halo ODST [PS3] Unchartered 2 [PS3] Ratchet and Clank [360] This is Vegas [360] DJ Hero [360] FIFA 10 [360] Modern Warfare 2 [PS3] Assassins Creed 2 [360] Mass Effect 2 [PS3] God of War III [PS3] Gran Turismo 5 [PS3] Final Fantasy XIII 6 games on the 360 6 games on the PS3 Of course, there are also a few other games Im looking at, but you can see that I would use both systems an equal amount.
Mics are overrated. If you NEED to use mics in a game then join a clan or something. The only thing mics are good for in a random game is for 13 year old boys to call everyone derogatory terms. Halo 3 is the worst. PSN is a much more mature service with more mature players, IMO.
