But what if you want to play some PS3 games, but also sometimes play some of those classic games that you may have not played yet? I guess you could buy both a PS3 and a PS2, but that is kind of a pain in the ass. It would be awfully convenient to be able to play them all on the PS3 with all the bells and whistles it has (wireless controllers, upscaling and smoothing, etc). This argument is moot though since backwards compatibility for PS2 games is not included in the slim. There are more and more good PS1 games being placed on the PSN store though, and all PS3s play PS1 discs.
Plus Demon's Souls, as mentioned by vinsensual I believe. Of course, it is a WRPG (?) made by a Japanese developer being published by Atlus...so not very high profile. But it should smell good! <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Rhlr1tAqljk&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Rhlr1tAqljk&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Xbox Live ($50/yr) + Wifi Network Card ($80) + Battery Pack for Controller ($10) $249 XBOX + $140 of extras to match the PS3 (Not including Blu-Ray)
Yet, The PS3 online experience is far worse, and the 360 has some great exclusives. I can't way to play Demon Soul in a few weeks though!!!
There's no where near as many ppl on PSN as there are on XBOX Live.... Xbox owns the PS3. That's why I only have two games for that garbage.
If you don't like FPS or Sports Games Online, is Live still better? Because I think the fighting games I have are perfectly fine on PS3, what does live do better in that genre. Are there anything else online for Live that would warrant an extra $10 a month?
Extra $10? I'm not sure about every genre... I only play shooters, rpgs, and sports games (mainly that). But the bulk of video gamers play Shooters... so I mean that's where Xbox wins. I have a PS3, and I can tell you I made a mistake in buying Call of Duty: WAW on it, there aren't even half as many people as there are on Xbox.
Kind of off topic, but do you guys beat the game and immediately sell it back? I really don't care for the online stuff unless it's an online based game. also... FIFA 10 demo is sick.
Saying the bulk of video gamers are shooters is a hyperbole. Besides, real FPSers are on the PC. Shooters didn't become work on the console till Golden Eye and wasn't really mainstream till Halo got all the frat boys playing it. I don't buy a sports game until it's 2 years old and in the $9.99 bin (which really doesn't have a lot of people playing online for it) and almost never buy shooters. I also don't game as much as I used to (maybe roughly 6 - 8 hrs a week?) So for me, the fact that I can play SF4 online a few times a month without having to pay subscription fee, it's huge.
Well... it's true for the multiplayer games on Xbox... The number one played game online for Xbox right now is Call of Duty 4. Followed by Gears of Water and then Halo. I know Halo will increase with this new release of ODST. Modern Warfare 2 is going to be bigger on Xbox this coming fall. I know, in your case, the PS3 fits you better... I'm just saying for the majority of people, the Xbox is the better gaming system.
No, not at all actually -- i've complained about the crappy workmanship of my 360 from the day I bought until it broke 8 months later. I think the 360 had better games early on and still does to some extent, but the gap has closed significantly. I still have some great games on my PS2 I'd like to finish on the new system, but it's not that big of a deal to drag out the old machine for Shadow of the Colossus. I think Uncharted and RE5 will be the next games I grab.
The PS3 also has some great exclusives, so let's disregard that statement and concentrate on the former. The 360 unquestionably has the superior online experience, but you're also paying for that service. I'm more of a casual online gamer - I mainly play sports and fighting games online, not big into FPS games. The PS3 having free online access is perfect for me. If I had to pay $50 a year to play online, it just wouldn't be worth it considering how sporadic my online play is. I expect to play my PS3 for 6+ years, so having free online is going to save me hundreds of dollars over that span. I hate fanboy arguments because they try to objectively declare which console is the best, but the reasons purchasing a specific console are usually very subjective to the purchaser. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the fighting game community on PSN is pretty solid because I've heard a lot of dual-system owners buy their fighters on the PS3 because it's controller d-pad is the better of the two systems.
The quality of the machine is the most impressive thing -- it looks like it will run forever - silently. I think it is quieter than my PS2. The great thing about all this is the neighbors will stop coming over to complain about the fan from the 360.
I know what you mean it's a great piece of tech. I watch blurays like crazy on mine in addition to playing games and have never had any issue with it.
SO explain to me what gametypes you are playing in that have 22 million people in it? PSN is big enough that you don't have a problem finding opponents for games. What does it matter how many more people one network has more than another? On your other comment about it being better for most people, What is that based on? Why can't they both be good systems that people like? Do you not realize that there has never been 2 different systems that are as alike as the xbox 360 and ps3? All I've been doing is catching up in lost time on halo 3 but I'll be on the ps3 non-stop when uncharted 2 comes out. People like what they like.
So, here's your logic, if you like to play console FPS online, and playing it enough to warrant a monthly fee, then Xbox 360 is better. Otherwise it's a wash, but PS3 doesn't have a monthly fee or to send it back twice a year to fix it. Seriously though, I still don't know if the hardcore FPS group makes up the majority of the people (or even of the hardcore gamer group). I mean look at how solid PS2 sales were and still are, and that system doesn't even have an online component. Halo was the only FPS that stood out in last Gen, the stalwarts of last Gen were Final Fantasy, GTA, GOW, and etc. Look at the sales number.
It's Rocktober 13th according to Tim Schafer. Yeah, this is going to be an expensive month game wise. I probably won't have time to play all of these for a while, but I pre-ordered Uncharted 2, Brutal Legend, and Ratchet & Clank from Amazon. They're a bit cheaper (56.48) for new games. I also liked the preorder bonus for Ratchet the best. Uncharted 2 gets a treasure map for all of the hidden objects and a $5 credit. Brutal Legend gets a $10 credit. I'm curious how quickly I'll get them. I've never ordered games from Amazon before.
