nah, just appreciate a differing Rocket perspective. its not like you'll need religion to appreciate a different place & outlook. moving is not as desperate as yah make it.
That's what I'm talking about. The different perspective. If JVG was coach and the rockets acquired those two players, people like Easy, poprocks, others in this thread would be lamenting those moves as JVG selling his soul to add more veterans. But these moves - literally happening right now - are completely ignored. It's a different perspective all right - an unfair and inconsistent one, based on revisionism. I t's not worth exploring anymore really at this point. I'm sure any day now we're going to get the "Luther only played as a rookie due to injuries" post, if it hasn't already been made, and I have no interest in having to repeat the truth in the face of prevailing fiction again.
I wasn't wrong about Adleman. I supported him coming here even before he was hired, and I knew it would take time for the team to jell with a new system. I always knew Adleman would be good for the Rockets. He can actually make in-game strategy adjustments, something Gundy had no idea how to do. I can't believe how many people supported Van Gundy for so long. He was completely the wrong coach for this team, and this team never stood a prayer of going anywhere with him running it. I actually rooted against the Rockets in the first round last year, because I was hoping Gundy would be fired. I knew that pain was necessary to give this team a real chance to win it all. We never had that chance under Gundy. Now, the Rockets have the best chance of winning it all since the mid-90's.
Everyone has a different perspective, what does it matter? JVG did as good a job as he could... Now let's get behind Adelman....and hope for better results. DD
Sam you're a distinguished poster that has my respect. above is your weakest proffering that i can remember. numerous folks have been critical of the recent acquisitions. well, fer me, its more about our losing (Bonzi) than anything we got. , but you've missed that exchange 'cause you're too busy licking JVG absentee wounds. if i had an expansion franchise, teeming with marginal talent in need of direction. JVG would top my short list. whatever though ... the Rockets have moved on. JVG nostalgia is tired, ancient & misplaced. make your best argument and his five year failure will still remain more poignant. just the reality.
A certain game against Denver comes to mind. Bonzi Wells comes to mind. He wouldn't be here if JVG was still here. Even if he was here, he wouldn't have played. He was terrible the first 15 games. He had to work himself into shape. JVG's leash isn't that long. Would Scola be playing? He was awful on defense early on. Would he get a chance to correct this with game action? If you can't grasp the defensive schemes, you don't play under JVG. Would Landry have been drafted? Or would the pick have been traded for some established vet? If he were drafted, would he play? Do you REALLY think he would supplant Hayes to the point of Chuck racking up DNPs? It's very unlikely Brooks would have been drafted. The Rocket front office tailors its acquistions to the coach it has. This is fact confirmed by Lindsey in the press.
and your pedigree as a Rocket fan is? the Suns are actively requiting part time fans. much better fit fer yah!
The 4 years prior to JVG were rebuilding years. Do you expect to make the playoffs while rebuilding? Besides that, how is the team those 4 years the "same team" that JVG inherited? How is the team that went 28-54 in '02 the "same team" that JVG took over? The year before JVG they won 43 games and missed the playoffs. The first year of JVG, they won 2 more games, or 45. That same year, Denver made the playoffs with 43 wins.
Whatever, JVG was a homer to his old team and so is Adleman. Difference is that Adleman chooses guys that can actually play some offense. They both had to work with their respective GM's to bring in their guys. However looking at the players we had, Mark Jackson, Moochie Norris, Ryan Bowen you notice that he placed a premium on players that were loyal and played the JVG way. Which is like robots with no offense. Why in the world we kepet Sura and Ward on the payroll doing nothing all those years is beyond me. Especially Ward. What did he bring to the Rockets except a parasitical money sucking spot in the organization? I'll give you Wesley,Barry, and Mo Taylor, Cato and Howard. As for Oakley, he was a 10 day rental. Who cares. You could have signed Pippen for a 10 day period of time. Heck, sign retiree Bob McAdoo. Didn't matter. Why pay Oakley other than the fact that he was an old Knick and JVG is loyal to his old players? There used to be jokes that we were turning into the Houston Knicks.
Aceshigh7 deserves to enjoy any of the success we might have this year. To me, he is a true Rox fan, he prefers the long term benefit to the short term benefit. Have you ever heard two words "foresighted" and "shortsighted"? .
I've always liked Adelman. I knew he was gonna get it together it just needed some time Imagine if we had played like this in 07... we would probably be the best team in the league.. and slowly we are currently becoming that.
I believe Ward got waived/bought out during his first year, or soon thereafter, and was no longer on the roster "all those years." He was an assistant coach. That's why he was wearing a suit on the bench "all those years." Could we get our facts straight before ranting? Much appreciated. As for Sura. I believe insurance paid 80% of his salary since he did not play while attempting a comeback. Also, since only $1 million of his money was guaranteed this off season, they thought he could have been an attractive trade bait. As it turned out, they made their moves (James, Scola, Francis) without using his contract and he was subsequently waived.
I don't get why JVG has so many staunch defenders around here. His career basically mirrors that of Don Chaney, except for the fact that JVG had no Houston history prior to the Rockets. Someone with so little success with this franchise shouldn't get this much respect.
There was not need to pick a side early on other than 'patience'. It's very hard to argue against having some patience.
I don't think bringing one player over makes Adelman a homer. It's different story, if he signed Doug Christie and Weber, and brought in 2 other Sac players.
You mean like V-Span did? Yeah, because V-Span didn't hustle. He was real awful being the only player on the entire team that had the ability and willingness to drive to the hoop. God forbid anyone attempt to create a high percentage shot that didn't involve McGrady jacking up a 25 foot shot. Let's get something clear here. Brooks, Landry, and Scola would not have gotten so many minutes under Van Gundy. It took forever for Van Gundy to start Hayes, when it was clear to everyone outside of him that Howard was killing the team. And Head really only played because the team was ravaged by injuries, and he had other choice. If Van Gundy was still coach, Brooks would be glued to the bench or in the D-League, Landry would be in the D-league, and Houston's rotation would consist of heavy minutes from Hayes, and James (Bonzi wouldn't have even been around). Van Gundy has never developed any notable rookies during his career. That's definitely a sign of his weakness in developing talent. Look at what Phil Jackson got from garbage like Kwame Brown in the playoffs. Look at what he's done with Farmar, and Bynum.
