It is a possibility but I do not think T Mac would fetch that much talent in return unless the other team is trying to do a fire sale. Economic crunch.
Maybe I need to start a new thread on this because I mentioned this in the Golden State trade thread (but no responses)..... but I believe the Clips are interested in TMac and they want to dump Baron's contract. GS would like BD back. We need a backup center and someone who can put up 20 a game and who won't stall the offense. So... Camby and Monta Ellis to Houston... TMac to LA.... Baron to GS. Is Ellis worth 11 a yr for the next few yrs? Not sure what DM would think.
Camby signed a 6 year deal in the summer of 2004. The 2009-10 season is the 6th year of that contract. RealGM may could have it wrong, but Patricia's site supports the July '04 signing date. http://www.realgm.com/src_playerfile/63/marcus_camby/ 07/16/04: Marcus Camby (DEN) signed a 6 year, $45.1 million contract. With likely bonuses, the contract could be worth $57.1 million.
In all seriousness why would you want anyone from the Clippers? Eric Gordon maybe, but Camby and Gordon isn't worth T-mac.
i've always liked baron since his rookie years. but you're rating him a bit too high. without the injuries, he could be that; but...
If we are going for a Clipper Center, go for Kaman. that's my thought. they like Eric Gordon, I don't think they are going to let the future go that easily... also, Mike Dunleavy? even though his Dad is coaching the Clippers next year, he's on the Pacers...
I don't think that's good for the team. No wonder he's only good at help denfense but not the man he's defending himself.
I like the deal of Camby, DeAndre Jordan, and Bdiddy for Tmac and Barry. Works all day on the trade checker. Bdiddy would give our second unit some pop or work with 1st unit as a 2 guard. We need scoring. Can't count on Ron and Von to deliver consistently. Camby and DeAndre (from Htown) would give us very credible backup as big men. Plus we take Bdiddy's bad contract from the clips and move him to an eastern conference team if it doesn't work.
I dont think the clippers are an ideal trading partner here is why: the clippers are going to only want to trade either davis or kaman or preferably both. camby is another expiring deal for them that couple with tmac's could yield them a lot of cap space to attract someone to LA (if they choose to do so) of the two while I love davis a lot more (being a UCLA grad and all) I dont feel he fills a need on this team since we have Brooks/Lowry at the PG spot both of them have shown a lot of promise and have room to grow. you bring davis on this team and while he is the far better player than either one of them it will stunt the growth of both players. That was the reason behind traded away rafer in the first place. They want to give up Randolph, Kaman and/or Davis of those players I can see only Morey wanting Kaman so we finally have a legit backup center for Yao who can play both sides of the floor. Davis is a great player like I said but his shot selection is just as poor as Ron's at times. I am not sure how he will fit into this team, if he is willing to adjust the type of game he plays because if he does adjust to the way he plays then it could be a huge bonus but I dont see it happening. Randolph is downright terrible very skilled, very boneheaded and you do question his effort on any given night...thats something that will not be acceptable for this team whose identity is effort and hustle. plus I feel we have a good tandem at the PF in Scola and Landry. Unless the clippers try to move camby but I do not see it happening with only 1 year left on his deal I honestly dont. If morey some how gets Baron and camby then its a steal but I dont know if the clippers will agree to that. They need to move one of their front court players since they have already declared in taking griffin. their front court guys are: randolph camby kaman thorton skinner jordan thorton, jordan are both on rookie contracts and you want to keep those talented players while they are cheap. Skinner is expiring but isnt going to make a significant impact in any trade that leaves the first three I mentioned above. I feel that Camby may be untouchable with his decent sized expiring contract which would leave Kaman and Randolph I do not believe the rockets would want Randolph so trading Kaman would still require them trading Davis to make salaries match (and us throwing in someone else most likely brooks) But also in terms of talent/competition would the clippers want to trade two starters in davis and kaman to get a former superstar who is coming of a serious surgery and not know how he will produce? that is going to kill what little fanbase they have left. Also McGrady plays the same position(s) as their two young promising talents in Gordon and Thorton. Are you going to ask McGrady to run the point? I dont think so while he is a good ball handler he has never played point in the NBA and probably is not a good time to start. He is better suited off the ball at the 2/3 spots and he can run the offense at times from there. Ask Gordon to play point? He is a scorer and not much of a passer forcing him to adjust to play PG would take away from his talents and strength. the reason why this was soo talked about at the deadline a few months back was Baron's displeasure about being in LA which could change now with the addition of griffin and also Gordon hadnt really blown up just yet. Now with Gordon comfortable I doubt they will entertain bringing him off the bench. Also I look at the clippers lineup without any trades: Davis/Taylor/Jones Gordon/Collins/R.Davis/ Thorton/R.Davis/NOVAK Griffin/Randolph/Skinner Kaman/Camby/Jordan They are pretty loaded in the front court and set there, they probably would trade away one of their front court guys to get a better backup PG and backup SG and I think they would prefer that than trying to get a McGrady. That team isnt really that bad at all and probably can compete for a playoff spot in the west, no joke. Injuries absolutely killed the clippers last year so their record was much worse than what it could have been had they stayed healthy. I dont think the clippers will deal unless we could give them a bench PG and SG both of which would probably wouldnt give up right now. They probably will get better options elsewhere for those type of players even if it means giving up Camby. I would look elsewhere if the Rockets feel its in their best interest to trade McGrady
again, I'm in the go for Kaman camp but I realized he does have a pretty big contract with a trade kicker... it would be great to have Kaveman
We could definitely get Marcus Camby in a deal for McGrady but would have to take on the contract of Randolph or Davis. Like BackNthDay stated, something viable is Baron Davis, Marcus Camby and DeAndre Jordan for TMac and Barry. Here are the problems with trading TMac to the Clippers: 1. The Clippers might not want McGrady around their young players with his uninspiring work ethic. 2. Morey has already balked at taking on Baron Davis' contract, which is crippling for someone with his injury history and age. But his ability to finish out games and get to the basket is something this team desperately needs. His shot selection, isn't (B Diddy shot worse than Rafer from all aspects of the floor last season). 3. Another deal that works is Zach Randolph and Marcus Camby for TMac but that only saves the Clippers 1 year, $17 million of Randolph's contract. It's a significant amount but he was easily their most consistent performer last year. 4. They aren't trading Gordon. It comes down to whether Morey thinks Baron Davis can stay healthy and be MUCH more selective with the shots he takes playing in a system with many talented players around him. Despite all the cons associated with Davis, a guy like that thrives in playoff basketball and can win you a championship.
You couldn't pay me to take on Marcus Camby. I've been saying for years that he doesn't really play defense. He leaves the Nuggets, and yet, despite losing supposedly one of the best defensive centers in the game - THEY ARE FINALLY GOOD AT DEFENSE! It's no coincidence.
This is ridiculous. Why was this made?? Would you want to be a Clippers fan?? Enough with McGrady threads and Yao threads. This garm is going crazy
He's definitely more of a team defender. He knows how to move his feet and where to be on the floor (though not as quickly as Chuck Hayes) and he contests anything close to the basket. Look at his stats from the first half of last season when he was actually trying. He's excellent to have off your bench for 25 mpg as long as he isn't leading fast breaks and chucking up 20 ft jumpshots. He'll also be playing for a contract. The key here is Baron Davis, though.
