Well, Doc's friend is bad at math. If you assume family=4 people, for the odds of someone in the family winning the car to be 1-300, there would have to be an attendance of only 1200. More realistically, we're looking at 12,000, and the odds are 1-3,000. The Rockets more recent game against the Raptors of all teams, had nearly 15,000 (not sure if that's paid or actual).
How about this....family - trade with Mike Woodson ATLs coach - former Rockets family member. 1-300 - players from ATL with 1,3,00 as their numbers - Childress, Stoudamire and Harrington. Hasn't JVG made an off handed remark about a trade w/ ATL? And to really stretch it, Doc had the word "legit" twice in the same sentence....2Legit2Quit - Hammer, he was from the ATL
This is fun. I'll give it a shot. I think that "legit" means this is going to be a major trade. Not like a trade of role players for role players, but a huge player (or players) will be involved. Obviously the odds are not going to be 1-300 because even though we are the Rockets, our attendance isn't that bad. I think he's saying that although not for sure, the odds of this particular trade happening are very good. Doc saying "legit - legit" might mean what I said before saying like this is a "legit star for a legit star" Maybe T-Mac because I don't think we will be trading Yao for obvious reasons. No I am not YOF. I hope we don't trade T-Mac but that's what I draw from "legit - legit" As to the "BIG giveaways" he could mean we are trading a big man or this is a big trade. It could be Yao, though I don't see Les giving up his beloved cash cow so it may be Swift, Deke or even JHo. The part about giving a SINGLE key to five people could mean that it is a five person trade. Maybe 1 for 4? or possibly 4 for 1? Or it could be indicative of number (Juwon?) Didn't someone propose a Artest + Croshere trade for 3 of our guys? How long have we not been CC.NET? It's been CF.net for a while now. The first thing that came to mind was Cleveland Cavaliers though I see no real trade ideas. As for biting the bullets, it's a do or die thing. It'll be like saying, "Man we messed up. Here you go." I made all of this up.
I also believe it is not be taken fully literally. It is cleverly worded insider info embedded in a promotion announcement. The truck is literally being given away in the very near short term, yes, but an analogy is being drawn to roster giveways that will occur all season long. I'm not getting the feeling this is good news for this season. First, it's a "rant", which is typically negative (but not always; stupid English language). And the Rockets are "biting the bullet" and are the ones giving things away here, not the other teams. An RJ or Artest would be the other teams doing a giveaway. If they can get draft picks for the underperformers though, then this could be good news over the long term.
What was the win record this time last year? The trades went down around the 30th Dec and that's when Rocks started to ball. Rocks are only several wins away from the 8th spot. If the trades happen now like last year, rockets start winning like last, championship mode isn't too far fetched.
New Year, New Truck One fan is winning a Toyota Tundra Dec. 31 Adjust Font Size Get articles like this on your desktop! RSS NEWS FEED Some lucky fan will be walking away the winner of a new 2006 Toyota Tundra on New Year's Eve when the Rockets play host to the Golden State Warriors. There's no crazy gimmick here. No half court shot, no blindfolded free throws - if you can turn a key in an ignition, you could win. Someone is leaving Toyota Center on Dec. 31 a winner of a brand new Toyota Tundra. Game time for the New Year's Eve clash with the Warriors is 6:00 p.m. Barring overtime, the game should be over by 9:00 p.m., allowing every Rockets fan the opportunity to ring in 2006 in any way they'd like. Families can return home safely with young children well before festivities get started downtown. One of those fans will be the owner of a brand new 2006 Toyota Tundra Double Cab SR5 V8 Truck that has an approximate retail value of $26,000. The promotion is just one of many for one of the Rockets premiere corporate sponsors, Toyota. "Toyota looks for opportunities to partner with community leaders in grassroots events and promotions," Toyota Sponsorship Manager Katie Scallan said. "With the Rockets New Year's Eve promotion we are able to be further involved in our community and with the Rockets organization. During the holiday season, it is nice to be a part of the giving and extend our involvement with the Rockets." The fact that the vehicle being given away is a Tundra will only add to the excitement in Toyota Center on New Years Eve. Consistently ranked by Consumer Reports as one of the best pick-ups on the market, promoting the Tundra through a Rockets game only increases Toyota's presence in Texas, a market thirsty for fine trucks. "The next generation Tundra will be built in Texas, for Texans, by Texans at the San Antonio truck plant that opens next year," Scallan added. Because of that, Tundra is our priority at this time and getting a lot of focus in our state." Each fan that arrives at Toyota Center before the end of the first quarter on Dec. 31 will receive a plastic key. Fans 17 and under will need to be accompanied by an adult. That key will have a number much like that of a raffle ticket. During the first half of action, the Rockets will select 16 secondary winners by announcing winning numbers during game timeouts as well as posting them on the arena scoreboard. Secondary winners won't be disappointed as they will win prizes including Southwest Airlines ticket vouchers and autographed player memorabilia. Five lucky fans will be selected as finalists for the grand prize drawing and will be brought to the Tundra Zone at halftime to select actual car keys. One of those keys will start the Toyota Tundra and that fan will be leaving the winner, all by just a turn of the wrist. With sixteen secondary prize winners and five finalists, a family of four will have roughly a one in 200 chance of hearing their number called on New Year's Eve and starting 2006 with a smile on their faces. In addition, those fans that retain their keys can redeem them for a limited edition 2006 All-Star Game shirt by visiting a local Toyota dealership. BUY TICKETS FOR NEW YEARS EVE
Where is Sydney Bristow from Alias when you need her to solve one of these Milo Rambaldi puzzles? I think I will just wait for it to either happen or to not happen. But if it does happen how in the world do I know it is the right truck and the right family and the right giveaway, or it's just not some imposter trade trying to be Doc's trade? Chinese Jews, 4 hour power lunches with Rockets Execs wives, infected toes, half the team on Medicare. Sheesh, this is becoming awful complex when a guy just wants to watch good basketball!
r-fan-since-81, I don't care how many ads, articles, bulletins, etc you post that support Doc's statements being completely literal in content... I choose to believe Doc's post is full of cryptic clues about an impending Rockets' big splash. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll bury my head in the sand again.
Looking at this again, it could be a three way trade for: RATT - Ron Artest to New Jersey (he's from NY) DOKKEN - Dunk King Vince Carter to Houston ("Family") KISS - Swift (and 4 others ("legit") to both NJ and IN?) 1-300 odd of winning Vince Carter "Family" and "Bitting the Bullet"(this could also be said about Artest).
You know, I'm not one to jump into these types of "cryptic" messages but I find it hard to believe that Doc Rocket, of all posters, would make a whole new thread about a truck giveaway, especially considering the promotion has been advertised on the internet and multiple times the last few games on TV. In my time around these boards, I've never seen him post unless it seemed like important or "insider" information, not just to rant about some contest. The post had statements that left you scratching your head. Hell, maybe he was just hammered the other night and didn't know better but, with the way the season is going, I'd rather believe and hope otherwise.
oh my god - i just noticed Doc's typo of 'someone' - what do you think he meant by that, guys? i wonder what his cryptic message is...
Somebody figure out a 3 way trade on realgm with us, NJ, and Portland that sends Jefferson here and sends Swift and Patterson to New Jersey as the main pieces. It will obviously have to include other contracts. Here's another thought.....could giveaway be us dumping an expiring contract on Charlotte in exchange for nothing to make a deal work with the BYC ramifications?
duh! i'm sure everyone caught that already, but failed to mention it for some reason or another. of course doc meant to spell it as "somone". so either mo or ne... which means either a reacquisition of mo taylor now that he's been a knick (which is more likely because we all know about jvg and former knick players) or nene has rehabed quicker than anybody can imagined and cd is ready to pull the trigger on a trade. SOLVED.
