I havent looked at the letter in a bit, I am just scared of looking at it and stuff. If there is a number on it, i'll call it.
This is true. Only about 40% of people in Harris County show up to their summons. Harris county has not gone after a prosecution for missing jury duty in 15 years, partly because there is no way to prove you received it. I read a long article about this. Apparently Harris county pays the least of any major county in the nation for jury duty. The article stated that some counties pay $20 a day, while Harris pays about $6. It seemed to point to that as a reason why we are on the bottom of the barrel of participation. Another reason is the size of Harris country makes it tough on people in the burbs to go to jury duty.
Kam, stop worrying. The only way Harris County comes after it's citizens is if they owe the county money.
I guess I have no problem going is that I get paid from my work to go, I see why people skip if they don't get paid.
Kam, you're worrying too much. Call them, apologize for being late, and tell them you want to serve. They won't fine you. They'll be happy to have someone who wants to serve.
If you don't see KAM posting for a while, we'll know that he's in jail! Heed Lawrence's advice.... "WATCH OUT FOR YOUR CORNHOLE BUD!!"
austin70.. I think that is part of it.. for some people it isnt' just a matter of sitting there all day and probably not getting picked.. it's missing out on work money to sit there all day and not get picked.. that's probably why a lot of people don't.. still not a great reason to avoid doing your duty.. but a reason none the less that I'm sure is the case for quite a few people
I think one of the major reasons people in Harris County don't want to do jury duty is PARKING. It's 1) impossible to find a spot within a decent distance, especially in the summer and 2) costs more to park than they pay you for going. Plus you have to be there at like 8 or 9am....no one wants to drive in crap traffic.
Kam: Do not lie about the letter. Do not. Repeat. Do Not. As is, it's minor; lie to them, and if the right person gets ticked, then you could be in trouble. When you go to appear, if asked, mention how you feel the justice system is rigged to penalize Asian-Americans. Enjoy your free lunch and have a nice day. But don't lie about the letter.
there's a parking garage directly attached to the jury assembly room that validates parking for jurors, i believe. call me crazy, but i'm thinking that's the way to go.
Trust me I have a lawyer in the fam. this is ALL TRUE and i have been pulled for it many times and have never gone and nothing has ever happened to me.
