It puts more pressure on the parents really. In other countries, tutors are much more common. Teachers sit after school waiting for students to ask for extra help all the time, mostly by themselves.

Like I said the coursework in Jr. High is the same or VERY similar. It is just to change the culture. When the smarter kids know they are in the non-college track it might be a wake up call to "wake-up".

The school district I work in it is a majority of the students.

The majority of your students immigrate when they are about to go to high school preventing a long term evaluation to determine placement?

    Can you explain?

No I'm talking about the district as a whole, not per level.

OK we have met some kind of miscommunication. You had a problem with how to evaluate who goes where. I said you judge their past performance over the long term. you said that it will not work for

So I suggested solutions in the small % of cases where we cannot evaluate them with their peers.

    Then you said

So WTF are you talking about now? Seriously, is it the "Students who move in fresh from another country" or not.

Oops. You might want to look up Juan Williams' credentials as a liberal.

His credentials as a liberal have long been lacking.

I'm talking about immigrants who are English language learners. Some of them are fresh from another country.

I guess there was a miscommunication, and misunderstanding. Sorry for the confusion.

This sounds very similar to what the Germans do. Am I mistaken?

Many other countries do it. It creates a culture of

    A. Grouping those with the same goals together, one screwup can disrupt and recruit an entire class. Culture is everything in a working environment.

    B. Competition, When I was in Jr. High I worked hard enough to make sure I could remain on AP/Honors track and that was it. If I was in a tougher environment where everone takes AP level classes, the drive would have been much higher.

As long as there is a long term track record for them (say at least two years) I do not see how the evaluation would be unfair to them.

meh, it doesn't matter anyway. Middle class is disappearing due to globalism and a bachelor's degree will be the new high school diploma....it won't really get you a nice job. Those bachelor level positions are really that much cheaper in countries like India so you'll see all those high-tech corps running there. The future comprise of 25% upper class, who will be connected to the world market and earn passive incomes and 75% lower class, who will be doing nothing but barely white and mostly blue collar jobs. Universities aren't growing to accomodate the population rise. Instead they are jacking up tuition rates to curb enrollment. Taxes on the upper class will be very high (maybe rightly so?) to pay for 15% unemployment rates due to offshoring and ungodly medical bills that everyone will get charged for getting a cold checked out. Social security is truely the biggest ponzi scheme where you give money expecting to get more back at a later date (sound familiar?). Suicide deaths will be correllated with earnings season.

    /end rant

Why do conservatives hate public schools? It really seem sort of un-American?

All for their ideology, I guess.

It must be because they perform so well and teachers unions are famously efficient.

Yeah I don't see how hate or non-hate(?) of public schools can be a con/lib issue.

    It certainly shouldn't be.

    It's about the children.

You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a different shade,
You've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught before it's too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You've got to be carefully taught!
