Kingwood College is putting on a stage production of The Laramie Project which is based on the events surrounding the murder of Matthew Shepard in 1998. Phelps and his "church" picketed Matthew's funeral which is dipicted in the play. That is why they are in town. HBO did a movie version of the play in 2002 and it is now available on DVD. It is a really moving and features some great performances from Christina Ricci, Dylan Baker, Clea Duvall, Terry Kinney, Steve Buscemi and Laura Linney. Rent it and you can understand a little bit about the insanity that is Fred Phelps.
According to the Texas Triangle, they protested NASA because of their gay-friendly employment practices and St. John Vianny (presumably) because they have an AIDS ministry.
That may be true , but I assume your are responding to meowgi's comment here. Just curious, what's your issue with it?
Well he said that "God is GAY" I'm not a hard core christian, heck I never even go to church, but damn I find that offensive on many levels. That's like a your momma joke X 1000. Who else would I be responding to, I quoted him. Even though there are PLENTY of other people on this board that title could belong to.
Well, technically, if God loves all, then he/she is bi, but why pick nits? It is more comfortable having an asexual supreme being. Look, is anyone sure that this group is not a complete joke? I'm thinking that, if some gay people really wanted to advance their cause, they could create a parody group like this. What could create more sympathy for the cause of alternate lifestyle acceptance? If it's not a joke (and I suspect it's really not), then they're just hard to believe. What's not hard to believe is that RM95 made yet another "well, if I was gay..." sort of post. It's like Old Faithful (no imagery intended... yikes).
So now you're recruiting. Look, RM95, I have nothing against you coming out of the closet, and I have nothing against your true lifestyle choice, but don't try to "drag" me along, m'kay?
And all this time, I thought it was the opposite. Talk about your mixed signals...lol. Well, it was fabulous while it lasted, but... oops.
Yeah, there will always be the memories... My special little file folder with print-outs of all my favorite RM95 posts... And I can think of you when I see underwear ads... women's underwear ads, that is... Hey, at least the thread title has an appropriate warning.
1. i went to SJV all the time with my friends...played football out in the fields out front..played basketball back in the gym in the back...i remember going there a couple of times with friends for ash wednesday services since my church was so far downtown growing up. 2. you're right...it's not easy...it's very difficult...and i feel almost hypocritical even suggesting it. but it is right.
Unless you personally feel that being gay is wrong or bad, then how could one be offended by that statement. But them again, to many it would be offensive to imply that God has a sex life period.
