I think war with Iran is inevitable. I don't see any kind of agreement that is going to satisfy everyone on the nuclear row. The tensions will just continue to build until it boils over. I'm just wondering when the war will start at this point.

Then give the money back that they recived for the fighters? you cant have it both ays. if it was;nt for iran financing the F-14 Tomcat project, there wouldnt have been any production of that line. it was only shah's that created the f-14 tomcat line.

This is a bit of tangent but I believe that the US economic support of Israel is one of the biggest obstacles to peace in the MidEast and isn't in Israel's longterm benefit.

I believe Israel has a right to exist and deserves peace as do the Palestinians but they will never have it as long as they insist onto holding onto and building settlements on land they captured in the 1967 war. Israel is a small country with a social welfare similar to European countries. Its also been spending a lot of money on defense and occupation of the West Bank, Gaza, and the Golan. In addition to that Israel is spending lots of money building settlements, defending and people them. I've been told by Israelis who have lived in settlements that the government gives them all sorts of economic incentives to live in settlements.

It seems to me that a country and economy the size of Israel could do all of that without the billions in aid that we give them. I believe if we cut off aid to Israel they will be forced to stop and probably pull back from settlements since it will come down to do they spend money defending Israel proper or take those resources to try to hold onto settlements. From the point of costs Israel will have to pull back and give up those lands. Peace will be in their economic interests so they will be compelled to negotiate. Even if they don't they will be compelled to complete a security barrier more closely following the pre-67 border and leave it at that. Palestinians get there state in the meantime even without US aid no Arab country or coalition of Arab countries will take on Israel as long as they have nukes. Terrorism will continue for awhile from both Palestinians who believe in totally wiping out Israel and from radical Jews who believe in keeping the Biblical lands of Israel but after awhile of having a Palestinian state separate from Israel things will probably calm down as there will be little will on either side to support continued conflict.

Do you really think that armed conflict between Israel and Iran would end with just these two countries? Is this in the best interest of world peace? Are you saying bring 'em on?

This is a very reasonable statement in an abstract high school debate tournament sort of way. Clearly the Palestinians did not deserve to be punished for Hitler. The 2,000 year old "claim" to Israel by European Jews pales in comparison to the longer and 2,000 years more recent claim by the Palestinians.

That being said. It is not a useful statement for the leader of Iran to make-- as the leader of Iraq. A couple of generations of Jews have now lived there and reality must be dealt with.

Given the superior equity and claim to the land by the Palestinians it is important that Israel be forced to do one of two things: 1) a one state solution. After all even the English and Spanish colonialists have not ultimatly created their own "English/ Chrsitian or Spanish/Christian state in the colonies. The American Indians, whether Christian or not are American citizens with full riights. 2) At least following international llaw and going back to the pre 1967 borders. Israel's actions in the West Bank with continuing expansion and wall building show that it is still planning to permanently flaunt international law and keep expanding. This shows that the bs about security as a reason for this is sort of like Bush's wmd claims-- a pretext.

Interestiingly, by perhaps making a return to the pre 1967 Borders impossible Israel may be seting itself up for the one state soloution , which is probably best as Israel will enter the world of modern democracies with a mulit-religious and ethnic basis-- not just the questionably morality of solely a "Jewish" state.
