When he came back from foot surgery last time I remember the announcers were saying Yao was only supposed to play 30 minutes, but he played 35-40 minutes....this year management said he'll play between 20-25 minutes, I just hope the rockets learned their lesson not to push Yao after foot surgery

Wasn't Yao was meant to be fine last year even after a while when the news leaked he was missing the season?

dude, your posts have been unusually incoherent. I think it's late, you should get some sleep and come back with your usual insighful posts.

    I agree.

DM has denied it, nothing to see here, move on.

It's time to padlock and anchor this thread.

    +1 worzel.

If you dont like the news a journalist is reporting, you hate the guy huh?

I also called BS on this one, but after listening to that interview, i think the guy heard it from 'his' legit sources.

not that i want yao to fail.. i will be on some other forum in that case.

Do you guys know why this is still open?

Because it is from a highly respected NBA beat reporter, who is not MAKING STUFF UP, he is reporting what he heard.

If a reporter makes crap up in the USA, they get fired for it......

This guy has no dog in the hunt, ala Daryl Morey, he is a guy that is just reporting what his sources told him.

I like DM as much as the next guy, but he is a Rox employee and has been known to guild the lilly to help the team.

This guy, on the other hand, is just a guy in Wisconsin that ran into one of his sources in the summer league who told him some inside stuff about Yao and he went with it.

    I totally believe the reporter.

However, I temper it, knowing that Yao just started running fully a couple of months ago and will still have nearly 3 months to get it right.

On the other hand, consider what it is he's actually reporting. Yao "could" miss up to two months of the regular season. Morey is taking a much firmer position -- Yao is expected to be ready at the start of the season. I'm inclined to believe the person who's position can actually be refuted by future events.

I don't think the reporter made it up, but he maybe heard from someone not that close to the team that there's a possibility Yao isn't ready at the start. And he spun it to sound like more significant news than it is.

Yao will start the season no problem. We'll start him off at lesser minutes though and ramp it up.

You will start, but get limited minutes. It might take some time till he's at full strength.

You will start but Miller will get the bulk of the minutes. It might take 2 months till he's at full strength

Brad Miller will get the bulk of the minutes for the first 2 months till Yao can play.

Brad Miller will start for the first 2 months, Yao won't be able to play.

A lot can happen in the grapevine. I don't think any body is BSing, it's just the nature of communication.

If you listen to the interview with the guy on 610, he says as much.....I think he is reporting what he heard, nothing more.

And, it could very well be the worst case scenario.

Basically, he said that when Yao comes down on the foot a certain way, he still has some discomfort and they are a bit worried about that.

And he only reported what his source said, he did not do a big article on it, it was a 2 sentence bit in his blog.

Then its not really a big deal. We all recognize that there's a possibility that Yao isn't there at the start. But the expectation is he'll be ready, and the Rockets are evidently much more confident about that than they were about Tracy last year.

Yes, that is exactly what I think they are confident but careful......and this guy just reported it.

    Listen to the interview

The only reason i sorta beleive it is because we've been on this ride before. Once with T-mac supposedly being ready to play, then pouting, then barely playing to not playing at all. Last offseason with Yao supposedly being ready to go by the season opener to not playing at all last season. Although this was unrelated to the Rockets, the recent example with Stephen A. Smith having to recant his breaking news on Lebron.

The key word in this is "could".

Anything "could" happen. I could miss the first 2 months of home games and not use my tickets.

Any other player could miss time too. Are the Rockets planning on him missing time knowingly for two months? Probably not.

Are they trying their best to prepare in case he does miss time? Ahhhh yeah. Wouldn't be wise to not be prepared for that "emergency"

We'll see. A small hint would be in the next few days as he may or may not play in his exhibition charity games in China.

True, and you really think he will play? I thought he said his rehab would not let him participate or play.

Rockets pushing for sesason ticket sales.

If Yao is missing the first two months, then sales go down.

Thus no reason to declare Yao is missing the first two months.

True, who knows, but just because the Rockets refute it, doesnt mean it has merit.

Yao denied that he'd miss 2 months at the beginning of this season. When he got asked the question on 7/20 over the phone, he's first response was "who said so?"

Yao's weight reached 360lbs 2 months ago, an all time high. now he's cut it to 315lbs and aiming 300lbs by the season start. the way he achieves this is by eating only salad and drinking "body fat draining" tea everyday.

he hasn't practiced with contact thus far and doesn't know the effect of his foot reconstruction surgery. "I feel discomfort sometimes, but never really too much pain. I can only know how it goes after playing some pre-season games".

I think Big Z said that eventually the discomfort goes away, let's hope that happens soon for Yao.

360 pounds...YIKES !!!!....I would like to see him under 300.....back to closer to his rookie and 2nd year weight.
