Last night he played perfectly. He needs to take a few long jumpers to keep the D honest. But, he was aggressive attacking the rim. What I love about it, is that it is going to really help Dwight's game with the lobs and put backs. Smith played a great game last night, and honestly it could have been better because there were two occasions he should have been on the FREE BEE line.
Josh is going to get his money either way from Detroit.if we go far in the playoffs, think he will he back.
I think I'm missing something here then. Assuming he didn't get waived, his next contract would be in 2017. what kind of contract do you think he would have gotten in FA? If it's MLE money then really he's getting next MLE contract one year sooner (summer 2015) than he would have if he wasn't waived. If anything he's netting out the same or perhaps even more since anything he's earning for the next two years is additional to his salary.
If he consistently contributes like he did last night we might not be able to afford him. I'd offer him the full MLE though.
Amen, brother. NBA GMs are going to be petrified of signing him to a big deal. They don't want to get fired like Dumars.
dallas is going to have capspace and cuban will likely try to @@@@ us again if he strikes out on the bigger names first
Not really. Dallas added 5 million in salary when they traded for Rondo. Rondo, Tyson and Monte will all be free agents in the summer. Does anyone think Monte will take less than what Parsons is making for his new contract? Tyson will count 21 million against the cap alone until the Mavs sign him to a another contract. Rajon Rondo will count almost 18 million against the cap until they resign him. Cuban has publicly stated since the Rondo trade that this is the team that he intends to keep together to finish out Dirk's career. Cuban and the Mav's will have their own cap issues to resolve before they start imagining they can sign a high priced free agent. More than likely they will not be able to go above the non-tax payer MLE to chase a free agent this summer.
Paging Bima... I hope Bima can write an article to clarify the options and possibilities. And then follow it up toward the end of the season as his performance will give us an idea how much he is worth in the open market. I know, I am demanding.
Yes, if he performs well enough for us to want him back, we probably won't be able to pay him. That's why I think it's important to keep TJones on the team. A healthy and improving TJones gives us a lot of what Smith gives us. I will be concerned about the PF spot after this year if we trade TJones.
