Smith is posting career playoff highs in PER (21.6), TS% (57.1), FG% (51.5) and 3P% (39.1). He's also averaging more points per game in the playoffs (17.4) despite averaging the fewest playoff minutes of his career (25.6).

Smith is also getting paid by the Pistons over the next 4 years. Anything about the veteran's minimum goes back to the Pistons.

Houston wanted to swing a S&T with the Hawks once Dwight signed with the Rockets, but couldn't get the deal done. Morey has wanted him to be the 3rd star for a while.

It'll be interesting to see what teams offer this offseason.

This is not entirely true. Only 50% of what he earns above the minimum goes back to the Pistons.

Still, this may be incentive enough for Smith to stay at least 1 more year at a relatively cheap price.

Smith is an enigma...wrapped up in a mystery.

Frustrating sometimes, but always entertaining to watch.

    I'm glad we have him.

    He reminds me of Artest
    He maybe a flawed player
    He maybe a flawed man
    but
    he brings *IT*
*IT* is something that seems to help the team in intagible ways

Artest brought TOUGHNESS, kind of mellowed the locker room . . . comraderie that was missing in most of the TMAC Era

I think this is something Josh brings

along with good play, excitement and ENERGY

Honestly I don't think he will be offered much. I doubt anyone wants him as a starter and how much would you commit to him off the bench as a FA?

At his age and with the Detroit money and his apparent love of Houston I could easily see him signing for the minimum or the $2 million semi bird rights Bima mentioned. He's back for sure, one or both of Jones and Dmo are very likely gone.

Josh has shown that he has it all (except free throws)....his play has given me some heart that we have a chance against Spurs and favourites against the Clippers

Isn't the break even point for Josh ~$5.8M a season? Below that he does not make an extra dime?

Difficult to tell. He can be a game changer. And he can be your own worst enemy.

Best answer I have read and the one I was looking for..... Josh just brings something to our team that's missing, some toughness and moxy that we were missing and it every similar to arrests one year here. I just hope we keep him longer than one year although letting artest go was the right move at the time with boy our stars never playing again after that season.

news flash: almost every nba player in a game long enough will commit stupid turnovers and idiotic pass attempts. But boy, when he's on he is ON ! Lovin Josh over here.

Brewer IS our transition offense. He leads our break on defensive stops. He is flat out the fastest player on our team. Three steps and he is at the foul line. He also has his own crazy euro step that just goes straight... but the defender just gets confused so either way it works i guess.

Doubt it, they are on very team friendly contracts and are under contract for next season. We aren't just going to let them leave.

I suppose its possible we move one in a trade...

Howard, DMO, Smith, Jones makes up one of the best big men rotations in the league and its likely they are all back next season.

    1. Why wouldn't anybody want him as a starter? He's been balling in the playoffs and that definitely has to open a couple of teams eyes, enough where I could see 1 or 2 teams taking a chance with him for the 4-8 million per mark. But I really hope he re-signs.

    2. I think we could keep Jones, Dmo and Smith as long as we don't bring in any other big's.

If it wasn't for all our front court depth our season and playoff run would have been ****ed, I certainly don't want to throw away the safety net that saved our lives.

But then again with Capela's development I guess we could afford to loose one of them, if the price is right in trade value of course. I definitely wouldn't want to loose 2 though unless we have another big coming aboard.

When Josh Smith cares, he can definitely put up good numbers and efforts on both sides of the ball. When he doesn't you can't seem to figure him out. I don't see us keeping Dmo, Smith and Jones. It would be ideal but unless we offer him a 3 year deal around 5-8 million a year I don't see him staying. Someone will over pay for his services.. (looking at Dallas).

    :)
