Outside of Harden right now, I would rely on DMo on near consistent offense. I hope Morey values this also, so I'm hoping we hold onto him. I'm willing to give up picks, Papa, Capela to get the Gogi deal done.

In all honesty though, if we sign Smith, I'm thoroughly satisfied with the depth we would have. Maybe Shved can step it up or Canaan can crack the rotation.

Perhaps other teams have scouted him? he was all nba 3rd team once and it doesnt translate to this year...hhmmmm i dont see hes proved himself more than dmo...and dmo sucesfully replaced dwigth for stretch of dozen of games...and he excelled in CLUTCH situations...he clearly has better postup game than the best center in the league-DWIGHT...you dont trade such a 7 ft jewel for a vague and unproven star...

I would absolutely not trade DMo for Dragic.

I would let them pick any combination they wanted of Jones, Canaan, Nick Johnson, Papa or Terry (one of the last two, not both) for salary purposes, Black, our own first round pick, Knicks 2nd round pick.

DMo would be off the table entirely.

why did woj report the rockets' bi-annual exception as an advantage? shouldn't everyone be offering him the same minimum because the pistons have to pick up the rest? why would josh care, he's going to make the same annual salary regardless of whether the new team pays him the league min or with the bi-annual exception.

We went through this a few years ago but it's a little tricky. Not surprised people don't memorize it!

Basically the more money he gets as a FA the more money he gets. :)

The Pistons only get to reduce what they pay him by one half of the difference between what he signs for and the one year veteran's minimum.

Now, honestly, considering what we are talking about, I highly doubt that Josh Smith picks a team because he will make an extra 2 or 3 hundred thousand.

We need to improve bench scoring anyway. Terry is the only really O coming off the bench. Brewer is pretty much transition O only. Kpap and Dorsey are opportunists Os. Canaan won't get much floor time. So DMo coming off the bench would actually bring some post scoring we need from the bench.

As a side note, I suspect it will be Black that is cut and not Dorsey. Not what I would do, but what I suspect what the Rockets will do...again going with the contract as the tie breaker.

So josh smith would start? I didn't even think about that being the case, since dmo has been playing so well.

But after re thinking it. It would be for the best. Smiths main jobs would be defending PF and helping dwight clean up boards. NOT SCORING (unless on power house put back, I just imagined it)

Then Dmo comes off the bench with brewer. They would do very well keeping pressure on the other team offensively and defensively while our guys rested.

now just for fun, if we were to get dragic ( i see a lot of talk about him in this josh smith thread) then we could have Beverley coming off the bench as well. Thats Deep(that's what she said)

And that's granted we don't have to give up any of those players in a trade for dragic

Dmo is a huge part of this teams success...no way he gets traded. A skilled big man who can score in the post takes pressure off of everyone. You guys are so eager to get rid of Dmo, right when he's starting to figure it out. Dragic is not worth a Dmo...especially since he's just a rental. Is Morey ready to give Dragic MAX money...Trading Dmo for Dragic is way overpaying. Let's see what we have first..no need to rush and trade away our best post player. Alexey Shved could turn into the playmaker we're looking for. No need to rush into a trade.

Uhh, Sam Cassel and Robert Horry got traded and those guys were actually proven playoff closers unlike DMOs 12-13 good regular season games. Anyone can get traded.

There are 2 ways to look at this; Smith will either play for a contender for peanuts OR he will maximize his earning by siding with the highest bidder, including crappy teams that have money. Either way, he is going to get paid his money.

If he chooses a contender like most think he will, it comes down to Mavs with HS buddy Rondo or Rockets with buddy Dwight. Now, on the Mavs, he would be seeing a much reduced role unless they have him play center over Chandler as they have Dirk. Either way, he will be probably the 4th option behind Parsons with how their team is setup with Rondo. If he chooses Rockets, he will be the de facto 3rd option behind Harden and Howard and basically guaranteed starter. Depending on how he performs, he could even be promoted to 2nd option and allow Dwight (assuming he is willing) to focus on the defensive end. Plus, there is the added bonus that he gets paid more in Houston than Dallas.

Biased or not, Houston is clearly the better option for him. Less clearly however, are Smith's intentions. He did sign with the Pistons after all.

At this point you are going for it with the window of Howard still being healthy. In the west you need a point guard that makes a cp3, Lilliard, Parker, rondo, curry, Conley, and Westbrook work hard on defense. I love beverley, but he cant play that role.

Unless you hear otherwise, my guess is tomorrow when he comes off of waivers.

We might be able to get Dragic without giving up Dmo...wait till the trade deadline.

Haha, I know, everyone on here gets attached to role players, it's not like DMo is some proven superstar. I think he's good, but everyone thought Troy Daniels was great too, he had 1 good showing...

Everyone on the team is expendable but H&H. It's not like DMo is going to get us a ring like Hakeem and be the number one guy.
