This. There are plenty of teams that would want Smith. He's getting waived because his contract is toxic. You'd have to pay someone to take the contract. If he was on a lesser deal like 8mill/year he'd be movable without any problem. He'd be considered an asset to teams on that contract and people would give picks to trade for him on that contract.
There hasn't been a legitimate report suggesting that ever, there's a bunch of stupid fans who seem to think this though, present company included.
You never know how anything could turn out. Nothing is guaranteed, you take risks where the rewards outweigh the risk. RISK: I agree he COULD be a cancer, but seeing how he is bffs with Dwight, that seems highly unlikely. Even IF he becomes a cancer, he can be dropped, the most we'll risk losing is someone picking up Dorsey off waivers, and some of Les's cash (neither of which matter much to me). REWARD: Nothing I've read leads me to believe the athleticism is gone, so.. He could turn out not to be cancer and becomes Josh Smith of ATL with less long 2s. A BEAST on defense with lots of steals/blocks. He only costs 2 mill/yr for 1-2 years, so you get someone of mid tier star value (8-10 mill player) for WAY under cost for the next 1-2 years. You get an upgrade at a position the Rockets need one (due to Jones injury/not enough solid big men. Dmo and Howard are our only really good big men). I think the reward is just way higher than the risk. If the biggest risk is he COULD be a cancer, that isn't much of a risk. 1st sign from Howard or Harden complaining about Smith and he'll be dropped instantly.
Getting an above average defender, good finisher and ball-handler for a PF is not a stupid move, a player with smith's skill set true value is around 7-9 million. We are going to get him for 2. And please cut the speculation bull**** about him being a cancer. Sirius XM today interviewed smith's trainer who trains guys like howard, harden, melo and the guy stated that smith is a great person. To top it off our coach is a HOF'er who does not take bull**** from anyone, smith acts up he gets cut. But i doubt that'll happen. This is a classic low risk high reward move.
http://regressing.deadspin.com/josh-smith-has-been-so-so-so-so-bad-this-year-1674111326 Basically summarize Josh Smith. Horrible on offense. Better than average on defense. Definitely an upgrade over Black/Dorsey. And at least provides a different alternative to the likes of Dmo/TJones. And at only 2m? Hell yeah.
Yeah I guess when the Hawks had to suspend him for conduct detrimental to the team that was just "a bunch of stupid fans" too right? Anyway, I'm done with you children for tonight, perhaps later I'll be more in the mood to ignore red flags and just chant "In Morey I trust"
Okay I understand where the disparity is coming from now. You and a few others in this thread hold true a few things that others (myself included) disagree with: 1) Smith adds very little value on the court to this Rockets Team (I would argue he adds a great deal of depth/versatility/and dimension to the roster. Essentially I believe the added value is immense for this team on the court) 2) You believe Smith to be fully capable of creating factions within the team, perhaps that it's something he can't help himself from doing. 3) You believe the leadership of this current Rockets team is not able to overcome such a Trojan Horse if you will. 4) You probably value chemistry more or maybe just believe the team chemistry to be much more fragile than those who are in disagreement with you 5) You believe once chemistry is harmed, the damage is difficult to recover from and this Rockets team (though getting past a rift) will never be cohesive enough to win a title together. Summary the upside is nil and the risk (however small it is) could be catastrophic so it makes no sense to you to take the risk. Sound about right?
Where did meme of him being a low IQ basketball player come from? He can't shoot so what, he also has a 26.5 assist percentage this year. Take away the shooting and look at his overall body of work. Total Rebound Pct >= 12 Assist Pct >= 15 Steal Pct >= 2 Block Pct >= 4 Only one player does this...Josh Smith.
Spoiler "Josh and I discussed the issue and he understood and accepted this course of action," Ferry said. "We are confident that he will respond positively, learn from this experience and come back with a renewed sense of purpose to the team moving forward." One game suspension. I didn't realize you had inside access to the hawks locker room to determine that the guy was a cancer. Please tell us more, give us your "insight". You are actively calling a move where we sign a player who is worth much more than 2 million stupid. Get your head out of your ass and stop acting like a child. There's a reason every major contender wants to sign the guy. O but wait you know better than them right? Go back to the texans forum.

Locker Room Cancer thing is stupid. Doesn't effect court play and players fight all the damn time whether they've been winning or not. Also doesn't cause teams to lose. Teams lose and then players get frustrated not the other way around
Yea there is way way too much rhetoric and hyperbole in this thread. Bottom line is a guy who used to be good and then starting struggling in a new situation. Said guy fills a position of need. Rockets gambling he can return to being good in the right situation. If not, they can just cut him. That is really all there is too it.
