If Smoove thinks he has greener pastures over in LAC, good for him. The clips are fickle, they pick up guys and promise time, then they get nothing. The Rockets also did something big by letting Smoove walk, they bet on themselves for once. They bet on DMo developing, Tjones developing, and them attracting more talent with their MLE in tact. What's wrong with that?
All Morey had to do was draft a PG and re-sign Smith for a successful offseason. But no! He drafts a low ceiling player in Dekker who'll play 3rd string behind Ariza and Brewer ar SF. Then he pursues crap PGs in free agency, but can't find anything good. Daryl Morey. What an idiot!
did we really let Smith walk when he took less money than we offered and signed with the Clippers? was he looking for more than what we offered up?
by being lowballed by the team he came into and busted his butt for.... just cause he took less money, doesnt mean he wasnt insulted by what we offered - knowing full well we have the full MLE still sitting there... prob figured if hes gonna play for relative peanuts - may as well go where they'll kiss his butt....
let's not forget the fact that getting to the WCF probably doesn't happen without josh smith. when a lot of other players on the team looked like they were already resigned to going fishing, josh was one of the few who still hadn't given up. now picture that same guy on the other team and who would have played GS in round 3?
Slow down buddy. Drafting a PG when we are in win now mode would be a foolish move, we can't afford to. Dekker... He was projected to be a lottery pick and he's not played yet, reserve judgement for now. He pursued Rodney Stuckey. That's the only point guard besides calathes we have been attached to, and I would take the calathes rumour with a grain of salt, speaking of which, could you get anymore salty? I am disappointed too, but if morey can acquire a darren collison, Augustin or Jarrett Jack (maybe even Lawson if he is bought out) and sign boozer etc. then it's not a complete disaster.
I'm not ready to declare Daryl an idiot - he may still have a trick or two up his sleeve... but i do agree a pg and resigning smith shoulda been our top 2 priorities..
Overall, Smith was usually the third best Rocket on the court after Harden and Howard. While the Rockets have two other PFs in the rotation, it will still be tough to replace that talent. Add in the huge hole at PG... and adding a talented player to the Clips front court, and it is tough to think we didn't fall farther back today...
