There was some interview when Morey said that he really honest with his players. He probably told Josh Smith the truth. Clippers probably buttered Josh up. The truth is Rockets were the absolute best place for him and he self-destructed.
Are the people crying about flexibility on this board idiotic? That flexibility stopped once we gave Brewer and Beverly their contracts. Morey is focused on winning now
So frustrating being a rockets fan right now. Little to no moves have been done this offseason and now we just got worse
If the first mistake that comes to mind is the Aaron Brooks trade. Morey is doing a pretty good job as GM.
How do you know that? He might've had every intention of resigning here and Morey could've f'ed up the negotiations. Remember, DeAndre wanted to be in LA, but Dallas did a much better job selling him on the Mavs. It wasn't until he made the punk move of backing out of his verbal agreement that the Clippers were able to salvage the situation. But by all accounts, they were simply outclassed by the Mavs organization in the initial meetings. We're already reading in these tweets that the Clippers sold Smith on what his role would be in LA. Granted, Rivers could be BS'ing him(remember when Morey promised Smith the starting job last year?), but it sounds to me like LA just did a better job closing the dude than Morey did.
We don't know that. Possible that he changed his mind. Possible that Doc Rivers made a better pitch. Possible that he felt the additions of Pierce and Stephenson make the Clippers better than the Rockets. I doubt that he had no intention of re-signing
i'm getting less excited about our prospects for contending this year, and i think there's pretty much no doubt that LAC is the 3rd best team in the west. We definitely could have used him in the rotation. That said, i'm not destroyed that Smoove left. Every time he jacks up an ill-advised clunker for the Clips i'll remember why this moment is not as demoralizing as it should be.
Morey turned the team into a beast during the season with Brewer and Smith. Can easily happen again and the offseason isn't even done. Josh Smith found magic for us at times but was wildly inconsistent.
It's amazing how much angrier and impatient this board has gotten over the years. Maybe I'm just remembering it wrong, but it seems like people were a lot more laid back in the .500 ball years. Now we're basically bringing back a WCF team with some minor changes, and you guys are slashing your wrists over us losing a guy who we only had for half a season anyway, and who might have left purely for playing time reasons even if we offered him more money.
The worst part is, Josh Smith is the only other playmaker on this team besides Harden. So I Guess James Harden will be the only one running the whole offense while other players wait to be set up again. James harden though young, can't keep carrying this much of load. He needs another player that can lighten the playmaking load. Teams like warriors would just make him give the ball up and we're screw. I don't know if Morey can't find another playmaker but he is starting to become like Rick Smith as in never addressing the playmaker/quarterback issue. Texans and rockets are going to ride the coattail of harden/watt and never really building a true contender around both of them. Imo, the Texans are in a much better position than the rockets. With bill O'Brien, the Texans will get better and they will do everything to improve the roster. The rockets I never really have any faith in Daryl Morey to begin with. I feel like with Morey, he outsmarted himself way too often.
give it some time. I already predicted Harden and Howard leaving. The writing is on the wall. Then we shall accuse them of treason
So Smitg took a pay cut to go play with the Clips who we bat despite his best buddy being here ? What does this tell you? It tells me smith doesn't really rate the Rockets front heads of Morey and McHale
Read my original post. Everything adds up perfectly. Rockets are stll looking to upgrade the 4 spot. They cant sell him a defined role, when they don't know what's going to go down from now until next February. Did Morey want him back? I'm sure he did, for cheap, without locking the team in financially and bascially forcing him to go all in with this roster. It's pretty simple. He wanted to be assured of role, Rockets wouldn't lie to him about it and they knew he'd probably leave, based on earlier reports.
KJ Mother****ing McDaniels SMH... So we have a back-up PG starting for us and no other play-makers on the entire team other than Harden but wait we can still get KJ GOATDaniels, Morey is on the verge of driving Harden out of town if he expects him to perform like prime Lebron for us to stay in top 5 in the west like he did last season.
That mistake could have been the difference in WCF and NBAF. Not including all the free agents he struck out on. Sure. I think he's slightly above average. He got Dwight, didn't get Bosh. He got Harden, didn't get Carmelo. He got Ariza, didn't get Aldridge. And so on...
That wasn't BS. Josh got that starting Job and it wrecked the team in the regular season. It was Josh Smith who said he should come of the bench. Morey isn't the snake oil salesmen some fans think he is. Morey is honest with his players. The 4 spot is in flux and that was probably conveyed to Josh Smith up front. It's probably the reason Smith is in LA now.
