That's a fair question. But I would like to point out, as I have on another thread, that Anderson had back-to-back 200-plus WS/48 seasons with Howard in Orlando (totals that would normally make someone an all star), so it's not as if Anderson is just another guy with a decent outside shot. The two of them fit extremely well together in Orlando. I don't see why it wouldn't work in Houston. But your question does give me pause...

He can also carry a team on any given night. And if the front office honestly believes they are contenders. Than getting Smith, who would guard (Paul George, Lebron, Durant, Melo) is the right move.

I believe that we have his Bird rights and can go over the cap to sign him.

Yea we could pay Parsons the max if we were so inclined.

Who said that these Rockets didn't draft a core piece of their championship puzzle?!

Yeah, but that's the hawks, and he did that when he felt he need to salvage them in a hero mode.

He would not be needed, ever, to be in that mode. If he did, he would be benched, and Dmo would be put in, there is your Euro Ryan Anderson. On this team already.

I like both moves, to be honest. Ryan Anderson would leave us the wiggle room to add someone like Corey Brewer if enough salary is moved. But if this team is in win a ring in 2013-14 mode, I'd like to have someone who can at least check LeBron. And Smoove would do the best job at that.

    Bird rights.

You can exceed the cap to resign you own players. Les has said himself he would go over the cap with a contending team.

Josh Smith would be the ultimate finisher of our fast paced offense..at least during the regular season. I think in the slower, half court playoff games he wouldnt be as effective as Ryan Anderson, who can be a lights out shooter. Dont really think you can go wrong with either. Smith can even play the 5 at times against small ball teams if dwight is in foul trouble or needs rest.

    Basically I see it as:

Smith: better for us in the regular season, and much better defender
Anderson: better for playoff bball on offense + you may be able to sign a guy like brewer

but, as always, in morey i trust.

Smith is better but Anderson is pretty cheap and I think a better deal. Shorter contract too. Anderson's skillset might be more desirable.

We're looking at the price tag too. With Anderson we can get another solid piece. Smith would be 4 years for 60 million?

Neither... not if it cost Asik. Josh is amazing athlete but his game is next to the Basket and clogs the middle. The Rockets wanted Smith if they didn't get Howard I do not beleive they want him now. As for Anderson. He's a great shooter and stretch 4 but he is a weak defender not very fast and doesn't rebound so great for a 4. DMo is better at everything but shooting and I think he will get better at shooting open 3's. Which is what Howard will create for him.

Even if he doesn't if Parsons bulks up just a little he can be our stretch 4. And then there's this Kostas kid who I think is going to be good. He is a decent size kid who cand efinitely play some stretch 4 and it looks like he can shoot lites out. SO while Anderson might be a slight upgrade he is not worth Asik. Personally I keep Asik and hope LMA or Love or maybe even Bosh becomes available later. Asik is a solid center who will contribute for many years. Some team is going to eventually want that. Maybe Milwaukee utilizes John Henson more this year and puts Ilyasova on the blocks. That's a stretch 4 I would love to have.

OMR the problem is that (and I don't know if this is accurate but it seems logical..) Asik isn't happy with playing with Howard and wants to be traded so he doesn't have to back him up.

Josh Smith please! If only for his defensive capabilities alone. He is one of the premier defenders at his position in the league...why would we pass that up??

He's also not a post player that clogs up the lane. He's a very much perimeter, dribble drive type of power forward. Gets a lot of his stuff off the dribble around screens or using spin moves. I think he'd actually complement Dwight really well - they could run some sick pick and rolls.

I would be disgusted if we pay JSmith anywhere near the max.

Yup, me too. Hopefully, he will consider 10-12M. If not, I hope Morey moves on.
