So Josh Smith is a good player, but is he the 4 we really want? If it were just him added. He is a career 28% 3 pt shooter. So the stretch 4 kinda isn't there in Josh Smith. He is capable of that, but him and G. Wallace are very comparable in the way they need to score on put backs, and running the floor, playing good D to start the break etc. So if Josh Smith could make us a championship contender by only adding him then I think there are a few others that would give us the same game. If we got him on a "lowball" contract great, but as a max player (like he said he wants) no way! I know Dwight is tough to deal with & even think about bc of his diva-ness & seems to only play hard when DWIGHT wants to. I'd like to see at least two good "assets" I mean players brought in together. Bigs that would put us on a new level are Dwight (I'd hope), Bynum(seems scary, but he is better than Dwight when he plays well), Kevin Love, milsap, LMA, and a few others I'd rather have than just josh smith. (If we could only snag one!). I could see Smith fitting in well to our fast paced system, and help the interior D. However, immediate championship contender; I'm not so sure. Now here is a thought, what about rondo or CP3 (if available), and then scoop up one of those bigs I mentioned. Pipe dream, but that'd be a championship team immediately. I just don't see Josh Smith coming in & we are the favorites. I don't think we'd think that even if we had snagged him over TRob. Let us all enjoy the rest of the season, and see how the playoffs go for us!! That might give us some better insight of what this team is capable of, and/or needs; depending on how a series, or more in the playoffs goes for us!
no, i'm saying good fit because of the personnel that we have. Asik is our lone interior defender. Do you really see Kevin Love or Lamarcus Aldridge having the same defensive impact that Josh Smith would have? Asik is elite when it comes to protecting the paint, Josh Smith is elite when it comes to protecting the weak side. Also, it doesn't hurt that Josh is an agile/athletic 4. There are very few of those, and with the way we play, we need a 4 who's quick and versatile.
Why do people say he wants the max still didnt yall here his comments he is backing off that now saying that he never said that lol even though he did but point is hes backing off what he said
you can't beat Lebron and Wade if you're trying to find a better Lebron and Wade. You have to exploit their weaknesses in other ways. Houston's best bet is to find the perfect fit.
Love and Aldridge are both better shooters and percentages are better..Plus the cheaper..They've shown a willingness to be reasonable..Smith is already out pricing himself..and hes a one sided player
How in the world did this "brand new idea" of bringing in this guy we haven't thought of yet in Josh Smith run up 5 pages in less than two hours? Am I missing something here? I feel like this guy has been discussed ad nauseum.
Kevin Love isn't a one sided player? LA isn't a one sided player? Josh Smith can at least produce on both ends without NEEDING the ball in his hands. We need guys who can make an impact on both ends of the floor, not just one.
Actually it was just a joke, but I would not put it past Morey. As far as deviousness is concerned I feel sure Morey is somewhere out in left field.
i have some spare time before i go for my pre-marathon run. Houston lost to the Wizards the other day and i was so pissed. We need a 4, and this is my way of venting. Cathartic, really
Someone finally brings up this topic....*ahem* I don't see Smith being the #2 option on a championship team. He could be the third, or like a 2A/2B kind of thing. We'd have to hope Lin/Parson/Asik collectively improve a noticeable level. Or at least one of the them blows up into a bonafide star. At the same time he might be the best player available after Dwight. BTW, if you don't like Dwight and can't cheer for him, I get it. To each his own. But love him or hate him, I think you're vision is clouded if you don't think he vaults us into the next tier.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKh5ko3c1Co Check this link out, this is Basketball Extraordinaires, Henry Abott and David Thorpe, speaking on the potential of Houston bringing in Josh Smith. It breaks it down, beautifully, for those of you who doubt it.
that back scares me, i saw Nash lob him an allyoop and for the first time in my life, i saw Dwight hang himself on the rim. I don't think Dwight will ever regain his athleticism, not at his original level, anyway.
Cool.... understandable. The question of "Josh or no Josh" really comes down to a simple question- Do you think Josh alone guarantees this team multiple title runs? The reason behind this is signing him longterm to a deal... lets say "close to" the max will lock the Rockets into this core for a very, very long time (5 more years), and Smith will most likely need to be moved in any situation where you want to make a play for another max salary player. My opinion on this(stated multiple times) is that you would be better off looking in another direction unless you can somehow snag him on a value meal sized contract. Keep in mind that Aldridge could hit the market this Summer if Portland misses the playoffs, Love as well in a year, and Gasol(just wait a second) should be available in trade and will give you great flexibility to make even more future moves with him on a one year contract. Since Josh Smith is the highest profile free agent this Summer (other than CP3 & D12), and quite a few teams will be sitting out there with cash to burn, I dont think he goes for less than 4 years 45 mil. So, most likely Smith is a no go. I just really dont think Josh Smith makes Houston a contender alone, and thats probably a big reason why Houston didn't pursue him heavily once they traded for T. Robinson(only had light talks reported). Pretty good sign the Rockets like him, but the price(previously asking in trade & free agency) is too steep for a player like him.
27 years old 7th in shot blocking Good defender 17/9/4 46% FG, 34% 3FG% 1.3 SPG 3 TOPG Averaging 20/10/6 on 53% from the field and 42% from three in his last 5 games. He already said the reports about him wanting the max are fake. I think he would be good for the Rockets. Who should we get instead?
