if a talented player buys in he wont be had for the vet min. Thats like saying get an MJ instead of Tate or something.
You are not wrong about drawing too many conclusions about SL, because he did the opposite and had a great SL last year and it didn’t reflect on the regular NBA season. We all know he can hit a wide open three, so the coaching staff needs to do a better job of designing plays that go towards his strength. Rarely, if ever, did they run a pick for him last season. Maybe KD will bring some much needed change.
I’ve said it a couple times his “crappy” summer league stats were still better than the ROY castles NBA stats….and he won ROY It’s such just goofy position to slam a young player showing promise and praise the other bearded talking heads told you he did good
Nonsense they should have just signed grimes or Beal to the minimum!!! Shooting over def/rebounding/hustle/cost/reality
Wrong. Every contending team has a scoring threat that they can count on . You need that guy, especially in the playoffs. JG wasn't that guy. I didn't put "everything" on JG's shoulders. I said that the problems with FVV would be moot if JG plays like crap. ...and that is exactly what happened. FVV actually played very well ...and it didn't matter. The whole team played very well ...except JG. You gotta have a guy. Regarding Reed, I'm making the assumption that if he's getting 20mpg, it's because he's producing. Ask Cam about that.
Interesting. I didn't realize that. Obviously the Rockets aren't too worried about Reed's performance cause they signed Josh Okogie, who's definitely not a PG.
Problem is this guy is injury prone and pushing 40. That generally doesn’t get better with age and use.
Barring a catastrophic injury, which could happen to anybody, the Rockets don't really need KD until the playoffs. They did fine last season without him. They faltered in the playoffs. Regarding injuries, the last two seasons have been fine. Last season, he played 62 games, which he likely simply just shut it down after it was clear they missed the playoffs. The season before that, he played 75 games. I'm sure the Rockets don't have any concern about load managing KD's minutes to keep him fresh. The team is deep enough that they don't need to play him vs the Charlotte's of the league.
I don't think Josh Okogie is very good, but I don't think Cam Whitmore will ever in a million years be as good on defense as Josh Okogie or even remotely in the same or an adjacent coonversation.
Okogie signed for $3mm/yr? As I understand, that $3mm takes the Rockets right under the 1st Apron threshold. But also, apparently the Rockets turned down other offers for Cam so he could go to his desired destination and get some PT and maybe hit a payday after his rookie contract is up. Those kinds of moves adds credibility for the GM that he treats his players not as "assets". Just let the Cam thing go. It's time. Sometimes things just don't work out.
Josh - Player that does what the coach needs/ask for, good attitude, defensive ability to win. Cam Whitmore - Chucker that whines about how good he is, doesn't do what it takes to get playing time, doesn't do what coach ask him to do. Difference between playing time and non. There alot of players in the league that could just chuck up shots to get 20 ppg, and get paid, but do they do what the team/coach ask for? If your playing on the team loaded with talent, yea i can see where hey, maybe there something there , but ive seen some times where Cam looked lost, why do you think he got pulled? People overvalue this guym hes a chucker like Green was. He had a regular stretch of playing time thru Jan and Feb, avg only 8ppg, on almost what 24 mins a night? Hes not as good as people think he is. Not a coaches player for sure. Give me josh for the win! Also even if the rockets held to him, do really hold money to hold on to chucker or give Thompson a good contract to make him happy? I think id give Eason and Thompson the money, they play great and do what coach needs. Rockets cant were not able to afford all these picks in the long run. They are keeping everyone they can, they might not be able to keep Eason.
It's vet minimum, so only counts as 2.2M against the cap. We should have something like 1.2M left before we are hard capped. So we could sign a full contract for a player with 0 years experience (bad move) Or get half a season out of a player with 2 or more years experience (Ie, pickup someone in January, or later, for minimum) Or fiddle around with 10 day contracts Or keep that 1.2M as our ballast around a trade (if required) - eg send out a non-minimum player and bring back someone worth up to 1.2M more I imagine we build out our 2way guys for now (they are $0 salary for cap calculations). See what we can get on that front
