I remember him harping on how they were 23rd and they couldn't get any worse. I wonder if he will be able to get a job after this.
KGOW (1560 AM) once again did not show up in the numbers for sports stations. How is this station still on the air? Does anyone here listen to it ever? Even if I wanted to listen to it, I can't even get a signal between 6pm and 8am.
Seems like 790 has made a concerted effort to NOT talk sports during their morning and afternoon drive time shows.
I do realize how difficult it is in Houston to not be the football flagship station. 610 must also appeal to a lot of traditionalists. I gave up on it a long time ago; just annoyed the hell out of me. But I still don't get the 790 desperation in hiring Innes. I'm always reminded when I turn on the radio after work and hear his idiocy ("oh, yeah, Innes"), along with whomever they've placed alongside him as a foil (does it matter what his name is, anyway?). I quickly switch it over to another station. As in, any + other + station.
Every time this is bumped I just assume he has left 790. I never listen except for Rockets games so I will have to rely on this thread or the sweet sweet David Barron article.
No one here knows the news this week? They took an hour from the morning show and moved the rest of the schedule up an hour, so he gets the most time at the station now.
Sounds like The Ticket in DFW and they run the table in ratings...I listen until the sports talk cranks-up and they start bellowing about the cows or the strangers and how much Houston sucks at everything and mosey back on over to NPR.
That's just patently false to say the AM drive time show on 790 doesn't talk sports, they do get off topic yes but that's the genius of the show, Mr. Bonko & Snacks be dammed!!
You're right. They do talk some sports. Some... And honestly, the shows aren't too bad. They're just not my type of funny.
Oh, I make no claim to 790's programming--I'm a Houston area ex-pat in Fort Worth since 2006 and a dedicated 1310 The Ticket P-1. They do so well because they go easy on the sports in the morning and evening but the sports comenatary they do have is usually pretty good as long as you can stomach the fawning over the cows, strangers and my-little-ponies
Doubling down on stupid? How bizarre. It worked for Trump, but I doubt it'll work for 790. Is this some weird "trying to be awful" ploy like the movie Major League???
Lol they were trying to give away Texans tickets for the playoffs and somebody from 610 called in and reported them so they had to cancel the giveaway mid-show. Sucks for the fans, but hilarious radio to listen to with Innes getting super pissed.
