You guys have it good. 2 sports stations in Austin...at least there were. 104.9 was bought last week and apparently has decided to be sports AND classic rock. They have a morning show (featuring Chip Brown) and an afternoon drive time show. Everything else is the lost programming from 93.7 apparently. 1300 is terrible and mostly unlistenable.
I just now noticed this somehow and was a little surprised it hasn't been mentioned in this thread or in its own, but January 1st, John Harris tweeted out that he had been let go by 1560. It was already more or less the case with all the defections they have had over the last couple of years, but now that Granato is all that's left (and he has a stake in the station, so he's not going anywhere), 1560 as we knew it back in its glory days is gone.
Well that sucks. I liked him. Let's just get more ex texans who don't know **** about any other sport but football.
Davis said his dismissal resulted from a complaint from a listener that was forwarded to the station and, apparently, to federal regulators. “They (the complainant) thought said something that I said was indecent to them,” he said. “There was one person so offended by something that was said during a male-dominated sports show at 7:40 p.m. on a Wednesday.” He added, “I don’t agree with their decision, but (the station) did what they had to do.” Davis said he was grateful to the station for the opportunity to work there, citing former program director Gavin Spittle, former KILT host Josh Innes and Johnson, his co-host. “We did great radio, and anybody who listens to our show knows that, regardless of anybody calling complaining about our show and calling the government on such matters,” he added. “Trust me, I will be back, and I hope it’s in Houston.”
Sorry to hear this. I thought the Fred and Ted show was pretty good. I'm glad Fred Davis basically ran Barry Warner off AM610 because he refused to act like a kiss-up, worship Warner as the sage of all sports knowledge and allow him to dominate every discussion. AM610 in the evening went to another level when Ted Johnson joined him. Those two guys were a very good team. Fred, if you are reading this, I hope you stay in Houston too.
What did he say? I am going to guess they wanted to get rid of him and they just used it as an excuse. I mean if they didn't fire josh after some of the stuff he said I find it hard to believe they fired Fred for that reason.
El Chupacabra? Do you mean the mexican radio DJ character played by comedian Nick Kroll? Or is there actually a real radio personality that goes by this moniker?
There is one and he sucks the life out of the 610 morning show with his constant giggles and lack of sports knowledge
been meaning to ask this, does anyone know where the "SHUT YOU DOWN" sound bite on lance and adam's show comes from? it makes me giggle uncontrollably.
