Replace "him" with "my". Real subtle Josh. Talk more Rockets, and you'll have a shot at staying relevant, and maybe even being a voice people prefer over 610's non-stop Texans adoration.
^^^Innes wannabes...back in my old days of listening to sports radio I switched to them when 610 went in the tank with Innes/Lord and lasted about 3 months with that show. They were ok when talking about non sports topics but their sports takes consist of bashing the home team and then saying "we're just being impartial" and accepting idiotic callers and showcasing that idiotic caller to show off their superior sports intellict. Haven't heard them in over 4 years so maybe they have changed but that was my take on them.
Ok, so I guess I'm in the minority and dont know much about Innes except what I've read. I have always been a 790 guy, other than tuning in for DP's or Rich Eisen's shows on some days. Now that I live in Dallas, I stream 790 while at my desk. That said, I actually gave Innes a chance today. I can't believe they replaced Charlie with this guy. 58 minutes in, and I can't take anymore....not a very enternaining listen - I'm out. He's loud, obnoxious, and everyone is a moron. No talk of any ongoing sports events, instead: complaining about candycorn, getting in trouble by the LGBT community for using the word "tranny" and arguing how he doesn't think it's offensive, his Grandma's love for Bill Goldberg, and a small piece about the Indians logo. What a shame. What have you done 790?!? This is garbage radio. The angry guy act will get old, and I find it hard to believe this guy will outdo CP's ratings in the long term. I really hope CP lands on his feet in Houston. Although he can be negative about our teams, at least his logic was reasonable and his intelligence poured through the airwaves.
Gave Innes a shot on Friday, and it was horrible. Dude spent most of the time talking about how the Colts were the slumpbusters and proceeded to talk about his sex life for over 30 minutes about a girl in high school. This is total trash radio, there was no intelligent conversation and the constant screaming got old fast. No idea what they are doing back there on 790. Matt should have his own show back, ND and Greg are ok.
That's some fine detective work there since my name is Josh can't believe you put that all together. I hate Nickelback. I don't listen to them because it hurts to. You guys hate this guy but actively listen and have a thread dedicated to him it's just weird to me. I see its ruffling so I'll stop posting in the thread though, I don't need daily show updates since I actually don't listen.
Well, the 610/790/Innes war bled over from Innes' show into the afternoon show with Sean Jones and Adam Clanton. Apparently Adam got his Twitter account locked because of that email from the 610 sales guy that he tweeted. lol. This mess is turning into an elementary school slapfest. I actually liked the afternoon show but if they're going to get caught up in this mess, too, I'm done with that. Anybody notice they're far more openly "telling it like it is" when it comes to the Texans lately? lol. On the plus side, I've started listening to CNBC and more podcasts now thanks to this.
Just remember what I said about the Rockets and you'll have a lot of loyal listeners like Charlie did
I listened for the first 30 or so minutes yesterday...honestly wasnt that bad. I dont like when 610 unconditionally loves the Texans, so I appreciate Josh having real talk (similar to CP). Of course, CP can not be replaced, but I'd rather listen to Josh talking sports over the 610 love fest with John Harris, etc... Mad Radio is my main go-to, but if Josh can stick to sports, I'll tune in for those moments.
Charlie would base his opinion by watching the game. Josh bashes the Texans to just get ratings. My radio was set to 790 when I was leaving and someone called about baseball. He let them go for a few minutes before abruptly getting them off just to take a shot at charlie. I miss Charlie. Last person who really talked sports on Houston radio not just all football all the time.
He seems like a Texans fan and talked about wanting them to win. He admits that he's not a diehard, but said that he's been a fan of them for 7 years now. He went to the game with his wife/gf, although, he did say he left a little early, but ended up having t stop at a bar to finish off watching the game. His opinion on the team and the game, I think, falls in line with most Texans fans...happy they won, but not thrilled because they played horribly and got lucky to escape that game with a win.
I used to follow Carl "Put up your" Dukes". He was entertaining and never obnoxious. Seems like a genuine good guy. Last I heard he was in Atlanta.
Innes' show really hasn't been that bad, to me at least. I just don't like the way that he always manages to somehow interject race into his banter. It comes across as ignorant and condescending. Requesting that people with ethnic names call in so that they can try and spell it, guessing the callers race by the sound of their voice, etc... Joking about racial differences and stereotypes can be funny, but Innes and his cohost just aren't good at it and they run to it far too often. It's cringe worthy, played out, and most of all just not funny. Other than that, I don't mind listening to his show at all. I'll probably continue to tune in after Texans and Rockets games for commentary and just cut him off when I'm not feeling it. But I don't think I'll be listening as regularly as I did with Charlie. And I was pretty lukewarm on him as well.
That's my feeling on the change so far as well. I really disliked Pallilo. Never liked him, even back to his days with Rich Lord, he has always just grated on my nerves, and I have shut off the radio or changed channels more times than I can count when I was driving home listening to 790. But now, at the very least, I am not hearing the same damn thing over and over, and the same tired shtick which just never changed, ever. I actually kind of like that Innes is self-effacing in some ways, and clearly tongue-in-cheek arrogant in others. But I can see how some people wouldn't like it, and it's not like I have listened every day all day either since the change. My drive home is usually less than 30 minutes, so it's been small doses so far. But so far, there hasn't been anything I have heard that made me outraged or upset.
I didn't mind Rich Lord with Kenny Hand but I didn't like it either. But since then, I can't stand Rich Lord. MAD radio and Matt Thomas for me. I love those guys.
Is that true?? I've tuned in specifically the last couple of days to see if there was any fallout from his blow-up the other day, and I haven't heard his voice. I wonder what happened off the air, because there is no way that little explosion between him and Lopez was enough to get him canned.
