After winning a really tv series some years back I asked a family friend a few weeks later (a talk show host) when I'd be on his show. He said it's been over two weeks since the finale and people tend to move on to other news after a couple weeks. That was over 10 years ago when social media wasn't popular. Now people get distracted a lot easier. OKC didn't waive KPJ immediately like they said. They knew in time the media would move on from KPJ. Just like they know in about a week or two people won't be thinking about Josh anymore. Some other big news will pop up and people will shift their focus onto someone or something else. The Rockets should take a page from OKC's book and not rush to make decisions due to pressure from the media. Unless the Rockets management wanted KPJ gone, he should still be a Rocket and just away from the team until proven guilty or innocent in court.
Yeah but impregnating the 13 year old girl who was working as a stripper isn't why he went to prison, the reason people want him freed is because it's very likely the case that put him there was BS. The reason I don't care is because while I fully believe he was innocent of the specific incident that got him thrown in prison, he was DEFINITELY guilty of that kind of thing on several other instances. It's just that I have a more broad view of things than you do, while my own personal morality is that of a modern American, I am capable of understanding that there are many other cultures in the world that do things differently....and they aren't inherently "evil" simply because they view things differently. Also, you seem to struggle with reading comprehension, which is something I can't really help you with. Apparently when I say that someone belongs in prison for a thing, you read that as me saying that those things are "ok"....sorry but that's a special kind of special. Another thing you might not fully understand is that not every person born in the US adopts every aspect of American culture....especially in areas where other cultures are both present and popular. I guess maybe broaden your circle of friends a bit if you want to understand more people a bit better. As to Giddey, he met someone in an 18+ club....there was no reason to believe that she was a minor and I absolutely believe she lied about her age at least initially. The reason you don't come out and say that is because being lied to is not something that would keep you out of jail. As to if I think it's okay, it really depends on what the age difference is. We know he turned 21 just over a month ago, we don't know how old she is now or when the "relationship" happened....but we do know that she lies about her age on social media and used fake id's to get into clubs. If she was 15 or 16 and he was 19 or 20, then I would see it as somewhere between acceptable and just barely unacceptable.....nowhere near the same as when SPM impregnated a 13 year old when he was 24. It's just not a clear cut thing, the details matter A LOT.
Has there been a confirmed report of her age yet? I've seen everything from 15-19. Every article just has "allegedly". The 15 year old thing kinda just started as tiktok gossip and everyone rolled with it. Could be true but I guess that's why the NBA has to investigate. Just to play devil's advocate. Would people have a problem if someone in their early 20s had a girlfriend that was 18? It seems like the real issue people have is that they think 16 is too young to be the age of consent.
I would guess it is on the cusp of age of consent or a tad below it......which makes it a fine line ... Also it should be cleared if Giddey is still in a relationship or are they done.....so little information and so much talk.
My grandparents met when he was 17 and she was 13, they got married when he was 18 and she was 14. They were married for 62 years until his death.
My great grandparents had a similar story and were even further apart than that, but it was in a different country in a MUCH different time. He was 38 and she was 14, they stayed happily married until his death. That kind of thing was pretty common in their culture because very often men weren't allowed to marry until they were financially stable enough to support a family....that led to them usually being older when they'd marry while the age a female was expected to marry remained the same. It would be creepy as hell to imagine something like that happening today in this country, but that's part of why you shouldn't judge other cultures and times by today's standards.

I mean, yes, that's exactly the issue. Age of consent laws are always tricky because teenagers are old enough to be manipulative as hell, especially when it comes to being horny little sh1ts. But they're also developmentally not at an age where they can grasp the full range of consequences to their actions. These cases always have a TON of nuance and it's usually not as simple as "grown adult male seduces literal child to have sex." Ultimately, I do agree that the burden should fall on the adult to make sure EVERYTHING is on the up and up before getting down and dirty, and that includes going as far as checking ID if he/she has to. That's why they're the adult.
