I think I was responding to a post from another thread. Someone was asking about Castro and Diaz for their offense.
Well, with your criteria, I guess Joe Morgan is the best Astro ever. You may not have known about that -- that's ok.
In 2017, 1 error in ALCS In 2018, 0 errors in ALCS In 2019, 0 errors in ALCS Last year, sucked defensively in ALCS
I don't know what happened to @TheRealist137, but the guy is now the most constantly negative person on this bbs about damn near everything. Don't know why, but it's odd to observe. eta: Hope he's ok.
Hes just "keeping it real", meaning being a biznatch about everything. The Altuve roller coaster, you gotta ride it all the way. Don't come in whining about the lame parts only to suck his d**k when he sacks up.
I love Altuve. I see him as a baseball version of Westbrook but with more talent.... Completely reckless and poor baseball IQ but can churn out incredible moments
I think it'd be interesting to hear Altuve talk about his hitting philosophy. Correa's all cerebral and has this master plan when he goes up to bat. I bet Altuve's all I see ball, if I think I can hit it, I swing. Probably why he didn't want to deal with the trash can messing up his instinct/reactions.
LOL no he doesn't every time, unless his plan says "don't swing at this ball down the middle this time, or the next, but maybe later in the game I might"
You're pretty close. One of my favorite stores was when someone asked Carlos if being around Altuve taught him anything about hitting. Carlos replied by saying that his routine takes nearly an hour for him to get ready to face major league level pitching. Altuve just takes 5 swings in BP and is game ready.
thats kinda just being a fan though. Fans of every team criticize and celebrate their players. i'll never get gatekeeping other fans of the same team.
Correa overthinks. He thinks a waste pitch is coming at 0-2, but nope.... the pitcher wants to finish him off.
In case you didn't know, Andy Pettitte had an exceptional playoff peformance while paying for the New York Yankees. Maybe you didn't know about it -- that's ok. ...BUT NO ONE IS USING THAT AS AN ARGUMENT AS WHY PETTITTE IS THE BEST POSTSEASON ASTRO EVER.
Well, and he's clutch and wins big games, and he's the opposite of Russell Westbrook athleticism, but aside from all that, yeah, basically the same person
Yes he is! Though Altuve is years away from touching Biggio’s hall of fame numbers. He isn’t anywhere close to even trying to replicate Bagwell’s numbers. But Altuve in his 10 year span has led the golden age of Astros Baseball. He completely redefined himself from a low OPS guy with a great knack for getting on base, into a 5’5” bonafide premier slugger. What makes Altuve the best Astro is that he thrives in the moment. Regardless of the pressure cooker situation, Altuve is going to produce 110% effort. His playoff numbers are a thing to marvel. Altuve has 21 Post season HR in under 70. Everyone else has needed over 120 games to get there. Most amazing thing is that from the 2015 playoff team that pushed Kansas City to the limit, only Altuve, Correa, and McCullers remain in continuity. I know Jason Castro was on that team, but he did leave and come back after 5 years or so. Altuve has one thing over Correa and McCullers, in that has stayed relatively healthy; and has always been at the helm of things. Greatest Astro ever!
Ask me if I would rather have Biggio or Altuve on my team and I would pick Altuve every time. He's a bona fide leader that inspires people even without talking much. If some 5'6" dude can rake during all the important moments, there are no excuses for the rest of them. He is the guy that sets the tone for everyone else and he has a Robin in Correa who is the vocal one. Both super confident but shows it in different ways.
The answer is Bagwell and it's not particularly close. There have been plenty of great Astros players, but none of them were as feared as Bagwell....I mean, 5 seasons over 1.000 OPS.....combine the careers of Correa, Altuve, Tucker, Yuli, Brantley, Springer, and Bregman and you get 1 total season over 1.000 OPS. Bagwell did that while also stealing 30 bases that same season twice. Maybe 1.000 OPS is asking too much, let's lower the standard to .900. All of those other players combined have 10 total seasons over .900 OPS.....Bagwell had 9. Bagwell's CAREER OPS was .943, a number he topped 7 times....all of those players combined? They managed it 3 times. The level of dominance by Bagwell was absolutely absurd, and it just gets more absurd the more you look into it. So sure, it's easy for some to forget, especially if you are too young to have seen it first hand, but no Astro has even come close to that offensively
