**Astros Release José Abreu from Major League Roster: Why Houston Moved on from Struggling Slugger** **June 14, 2024** **Houston, TX** – The Houston Astros have released José Abreu from their major league roster following ongoing struggles at the plate. The veteran slugger, signed to a three-year, $58.5 million deal, failed to live up to expectations with a sub-.200 batting average and minimal home run production. General Manager Dana Brown did not mince words, placing the blame squarely on Jeff Bagwell. "This was a terrible decision from the start," Brown said. "Jeff insisted on this deal, and it has cost us dearly." Brown has forced Bagwell to come out of retirement and resume his duties at first base, effectively giving him a walk of shame for the fans to witness. "If Jeff thought Abreu was the answer, let's see if he can do any better himself," Brown added. At 55, Bagwell's arm hasn't been tested in years, with the exception of tossing dollar bills in certain establishments. Bagwell will take the field once more, hoping to bring some spark to the struggling team. As the Astros look to climb out of the league's basement, fans are left to see if Bagwell's return can provide the needed boost.
We wasted so much precious time to try and get him right. Bagwell took him to Florida to work with him and then said Abreu was ready because he wanted to get back to Houston for his birthday. The team took off immediately after Abreu left and then sank back to their pathetic selves as fast as he came back. Bagwell needs to be exiled next.
Astros should have signed him to a 2 year contract instead of a 3 year contract so the $30 million is a waste of money since he will not be on the roster next year but thank you Jose for the memories!
