He picked up 8 and 15 rebounds, before he played the Nuggets. He seems better matched with guys like Ibaka at PF than 7ft giants at C. It was a huge struggle for him to rebound against DHoward, Bynum, Cousins, etc.
Nice to see Hill playing well in the playoffs, but LOL @ these people coming out of the woodwork to bash Morey in hindsight for the trade. Where were you when the trade was made? Is it that hard for people to acknowledge that the trade helped both sides? Why is it that someone always has to get hosed in a deal? Hill was not a good fit for us because we need a more offensive oriented big (note how in LA he's not asked to create for anyone - just box out your guy and hustle) that wasn't as lost defensively. We basically bought a cheap first round pick that could be used in a future trade. For a rebuilding team, how is that possibly a bad move?
It means that I withhold judgment on this trade until I know two things. 1. How much Jordan Hill gets paid this offseason as a result of this playoff series - we can't count out "contract year", after all. If some team actually decides to pay him full MLE for multiple years, I will utterly laugh at the Lakers or the team stupid enough to give him that deal. 2. Who we get with the pick. Sure, it's a late pick. But 1. Morey's gotten players better than Hill with late picks and 2. there's a chance, however small it is, that that pick turns awesome in 2018. Ultimately, I'm just not all that annoyed. We traded a energy hustle guy, and he turned out to be an energy hustle guy who does better when he plays with All-NBA and future HoF players. Shocker.
He's a nice guy to have when you have a solid team but he was just another role player on a team full of them when on the Rockets. He is better off in LA.
umm..because he got the worse end of the deal? kupchak flat out fleeced him. recognized the talent that morey didn't, and dangled a late 1st rounder , and the sucker gobbled it up. hook, line, and sinker. sorry, morey fanboys. he got got.
understand that the possibility exists that morey is, and always has been, in way over his head as an NBA GM. you don't have to feel obligated to protect him in every way possible. for #1: if you're going to credit morey for unloading hill in a contract year, make certain that you discredit him to the max for not doing the same with dragic. and for #2: that's crazy talk. credit morey for getting rid of a good player in exchange for a player he hasn't drafted yet? at what level would you be willing to stop thinking that is a viable argument? if pat riley traded lebron james for 3 1st rounders, would you say, "let's wait to see who he drafts before we judge this trade?" give me the known commodity, who is likely way better than morey understood, per lakers' FO comments.
Really, cardpire, it comes down to the fact that you think Hill has significant talent. I don't, and I still don't after tonight, because he didn't do anything I didn't he couldn't do ( well, he hit one jumper. That was a shocker). Hill to me, just isn't a good player. He's decent, an energy guy, a hustle guy. He can be the 8th or 9th man when the other dudes around him are elite, which is exactly the situation he is in right now. Consequently, if we dump him off for a first round pick which could potentially be better or worse than him, it's not something that seriously concerns me unless the pick turns out to suck or Hill actually becomes a good player. But enough about me. What about you? What do you think Jordan Hill, who will be 25 by the beginning of next season, will become?
Are you suggesting that we would have been better off keeping Hill, or that we could have gotten something better in another trade for him? To me, neither is the case.
That's absurd. Hill would have just walked, anyway. I'm more than happy with netting a first rounder. Hill was solid in games 1&4 and a no show in games 2&3. How is that any different than what he did here? Not like he's lighting it up, he's just being a decent role player, nothing more.
I don't know why people are getting so defensive about Jordan Hill. He is what he is, he's only doing well now because he's playing with good players. We didn't miss out on him, we already saw what he can do. But at the same time, let's not pretend that the Lakers gave up so much to get him. Derek Fisher and a late first round pick that has a good chance to become nothing in the nba? Lateral moves, nothing more, nothing less.
