Would not mind him.... but this time pair him up with an offensive coordinator and a talent coach.... Never played certain rookies
Ok... then young players Mostly Boki and Vspan.... I know Vspan did not turn out the way he should be but at least give him chance over old geezers
You know what I mean... You wanna see Strickland, Brunson, old Mark Jackson, Oakley, Weatherspoon, Wesley and the old Knicks brigade all over again?
If your GM moves over players from abroad, or local players, you play them from the beginning, then you have a better and quicker outlook of what they can be or what they cannot be... hence you can trade them, discard them earlier..... This is not an issue with JVG only but all coaches and their staff - Twill and the Busts for instance, or in this case all the Knicks players and Vspan JVG just brought in more near retiring fossils.
Yep. Also he's playing on a better team with superstar players. He's going to look better. He has less pressure and can just worry about playing hard. See Trevor Ariza.
Given the career arc of both of those players I think it's hard to find fault with JVG's playing patterns regarding those guys. Hindsight is 20/20. And in hindsight JVG did the right thing in limiting the playing time of those players.
Speaking of Jordan "The (Family) Man" Hill, check out this article: http://www.tmz.com/2012/04/30/jorda...amily-member-los-angeles-lakers/#.T57DJLNunk4
You can't drop a blanket "JVG won't play young guys" and conveniently forget he brought along Head, Hayes, and Brooks. And Spanoulis DID get his opportunities - unfortunately, he was a mess on the floor almost every time. You can't keep playing a guy that doesn't finish at the rim, hit his shoots, or hit the open man. Alledgedly, Spanoulis came to town too sure of himself and not open to the fact that he needed to adjust his game. It was less about him being a rookie and more about it being JVG vs Francis all over again. The reason Van Gundy prefers the grizzled half-dead vets is because he wants guys that know how to play at a high (IQ) level. He's got no time for players that try to get away with playground ball or that constantly get lost in rotations.
JVG never had Brooks, but he did bring along Head and Hayes, and of course helped refined the game of then 2nd-year player Yao Ming. In his NY tenure, he also made significant contributors out of young players like Kurt Thomas (drafted by the Knicks) and Marcus Camby (traded to NY in his 2nd season).
Remember folks, this guy is from NY, and came here as a Knicks fan..... Take it with a grain of salt. DD
The Abzorbaloff again sucks every discussion into one of his pet topics. Take what with a grain of salt? That Head, Hayes, Yao, Camby and Thomas became significant contributors as young players coached by Van Gundy? Did these things happen or not happen because I like Jeff Van Gundy?
Grain of salt? So JVG didn't get young guys like Head and Hayes minutes? He didn't park Yao down low during Yao's most dominant runs with Houston? That's ridiculous. So if a GM goes and gets a international player, he should play him right away? Even over guys who have proved and earned their playing time?
No, take your ****ing defending of the bald leg clutcher as gospel, you have had your lips firmly attached to his arse for years now. DD
