the problem with JHill is consistency, some nights he plays like a stud but at least 70% of the time he seems lost, lack of effort, scared, etc. this kinda thing is mostly mental, someone needs to light a fire on his butt maybe someone like Rasheed Wallace can help him out, to play with more passion but minus the techs
The thing is, if you're not already wired that way, that fire will burn out quickly. That's why Hill will have a good game every once in a while, and then stink up the joint the rest of the time. I'm not sure that can ever change with him.
This thread stands as a testament to naive ineptitude perceived as insightful prognostication. After re-reading the posts in the thread, I am embarrassed for the poster(s), ahem, for stating opinions as absolute certainties that in retrospect make them look foolish.
It is not the coaching or the system. Jordan Hill took a good 2 months off with Adelman last season too...
Jordan is who he is. Very, very inconsistent. Some comments from Morey last year: [rquoter]I think...we have more resources than any NBA team for them to improve themselves. On D, he is one who is just slower to improve. That is negating his minutes. Rick making sure he is following the gameplan and watching his D. On O, he is good. In terms of sticking a foot in his ass, either you have the fire or dont. Too early still for Jordan we think. Reality is these players are young. He needs to get that fire within. Either it will come from him or it wont.[/rquoter] [rquoter][Caller]: Tell me something about Hill's practice, work ethic, etc. Opportunity is there for Jordan. We need athleticism, rebound, shot blocking. His O is alright. What happened the game before OKC, where he ended up only with 5 minutes or something like that, they ended up playing small in the 2nd half, and he missed a couple of assignments. His progression is slower than the coaches would like. He still misses assignments on both ends but we continue to work with him. The opportunity is right there.[/rquoter] [rquoter]H: Is Hill getting the importance of the game? DM: Absolutely. He's been making progress. You get a young player who's as talented as him, its not just being talented its putting the work in. There's nothing limiting Jordan Hill, he's got the size/athleticism to be a great player. He's got to decide whether he has the desire to be great. We know he'll be a good player, once he does that consistently will he have it in him to take another step and take it to a hgher level.[/rquoter] [rquoter]Jordan Hill, he's an interesting guy. We just talked about guys not knowing what they're gonna be professionally in their early-mid 20s. He is doing interesting things for you. Slowly but surely things coming around. I agree with that. You see the steady progress. 2 steps forward 1 step back. He knows that. We work with him constantly on D breakdowns. Those are trending downwards. O trending upwards. I do compare him to Terrence a little bit. Got every physical tool, every ability in the world. Looks like Jordan is starting to put it together. Not where he's a consistent player who helps you win. Where you wanna get to is like Scola. Every night you know what he's gonna give you. Shane and Kyle too. Kyle very consistent. Thats his next step. Be consistent when hes out there. Not there yet. All the trends positive. Terrence the same. Every physical ability to be top starter like Jordan does. Those are the kind of bets we need to make. Need to make bets on guys who have that ability. Will he make it for sure? We dont know. Do we think he has a good chance? We do or else we wouldnt have made the investment in him.[/rquoter]
Jordan Hill is just plain not a very good basketball player. All he has is size, his basketball IQ is zero. I would much rather have someone take his roster spot. He killed us in the spurs game.
Well he is finished now! He has no confidence and he looks even worse than last year. Oh well at least we have the Knicks first round pick to look forward too. Hopefully, Morey can pick a guy he doesn't have to immediately send to the D-League!
I would like to see a trade of: - Kevin Martin - Jordan Hill - Chase Budinger - Cash Considerations FOR: - Al Jefferson - Warriors 2012 1st Round Pick (Top 7 Protected Pick) --> (Probably too much to ask for) New Lineup: P.G. - Kyle Lowry______ /___ Goran Dragic S.G. -Courtney Lee____ / ___Terrence Williams S.F. - Chandler Parsons /____ Marcus Morris P.F. - Luis Scola_______/____ Patrick Patterson ..C. - Al Jefferson_____/____ Samuel Dalembert
Thanks for the quotes, hsf09. This exchange jumped out at me, as Morey's response echoes how I look not just at Hill, but Williams, Scola, and Lowry. Kind of freaky to see this in print. (Someone) Jordan Hill, he's an interesting guy. We just talked about guys not knowing what they're gonna be professionally in their early-mid 20s. He is doing interesting things for you. It's like Morey is sitting on a tree limb with those comments (and his acquisition of Hill and Williams), with Hill and Williams busy sawing away, the wind is picking up, and you're left wondering, will the limb break before the two "get it" and start consistently producing on the court? Morey put his arse on the line getting both. It is an aspect of his job that I wouldn't relish. The stress must be amazing. And the comments are from last year!
Agree with everyone harping on Hill's inconsistency. He's no longer a rookie or a young guy. He's a few years into the league, and he should at least be consistent by know. How much longer of "developing" this guy? Whenever Hill has a nice game these days, it always tells me about what kind of opponent we played, not actually an indicator of his talent.
You guys do realize he is playing center this year and not his natural position of PF, right? But I do agree, he is not playing nearly as well. DD
Hill has been playing like garbage. He's not really even suitable as a back up center (and yeah I know it's not his natural position but still).
You might be one a few that think the Dleague is a demotion and the competition there does not help players at all.
I'm starting to think Hill doesn't have it inside of him. It feels like he's out there collecting a paycheck and enjoying "the lifestyle." That's just the vibe I get.
I used to think that was the case too (him playing a lot of '5'). But then I realized he's still slow. He rushes. He's really poor offensively. And in this league, more and more, with the lack of true centers, playing 5 as a 6-10 guy isn't a HUGE jump. Not like Hayes playing center.
People need to stop these threads. We have no offensive system and its really hard for role players to know their role when the coach doesnt even know. Our spacing and execution is so poor right now it looks amatuerish. Give it time.
HALELUJAH !!! A guy who understands the game of basketball. Praise the lord and pass the ammunition. DD
