Everytime a player that does well and isn't a lottery pick u will see hakeeem94 anti tank rants. Fk no top 1-100 youth or 50-100 r equally talented. Got to stop pushing that bs nonsense
It’s all about being opportunistic and optimizing chances. you’re kidding yourself if you view any aspect of roster building as a “sure thing” You put yourself in the most advantageous positions possible, pounce on opportunities, and live with the results. Last year and this year, tanking put more chips on our table than not tanking
Lottery picks playing up to expectations and being rewarded with MIP votes is ridiculous. Voting privileges should be stripped from many in the media. All three of those finalists were all stars this year. Watch Zion have a bounce back year and get crowned MIP with the way people are voting nowadays.
Why is it ridiculous? Why does draft position matter? The only thing that should matter is how a player performs in the current year relative to his prior year. All 3 were more deserving than Poole. Poole's counting stats increased as a result of increased minutes and usage; his shooting percentages didn't change much. Look at his per-36 minute stats for this year and last year....they're about the same. Morant/Garland/Murray all have noticeable increases. In other words, Poole's per-minute production didn't improve much compared to that of the other 3.
But why? Surely the leap from above-average player to all-star is more impressive than the leap from average to above-average....
You seriously believe Morant was simply above average last year? Garland and Ja are both high lottery picks and were already trending up.
You're getting too caught up in draft position. It's irrelevant. The only thing that matters is this year vs last year. I was trying to use an adjective that applied to all 3 of the finalists.
Look this isn't like Randle or LOladipo who both won years after their first contracts when both actually caught people by surprise after years of being just good players.
Murray/Garland/Morant were more surprising than Poole. Poole's per-minute production didn't improve much (if at all). Did anyone come out of nowhere and shock the world? No, but the award still has to go to someone...
I'm wondering if pool is the next george hill. guy who is hot in the playoffs and becomes overvalued. maybe gsw should trade him like spurs did george hill?
