Jordan: 'I could have scored 100 points' in today's NBA

He probably could have with all these weak ass perimeter defenders that we've got today in the NBA.

Jordan in his prime would have destroyed Battier, Sefelosha, Bowen, Artest, LeBron or any other defender.

 

Based on how Kobe, Ginobili, Martin and co's ability to get red carpet to the foul line, I think don't think 100 is out of the realm of possibility... to say nothing of the lack of physicality or weak perimeter defenders in today's league.

 

Well you see how the refs treat Wade/Kobe/Lebron. That and the touch fouls on the perimeter Mike would live at the charity stripe.

 

Without hand checking I don't doubt that Jordan probably could've scored 100. What I am more interested though is wondering how Dream would do with today's zone D's.

wouldn't surprise me. a young MJ was unstoppable going to the paint and finishing around the rim. and his midrange J was killer.

 

I never said he didn't get to the line with the old rules. Just imagine how bad it would be now.

He'd score 100 back to back. They'd have to change the rules just to make things fair. Now turn things around, put Kobe in that era, he'd be hunched over in the paint with Charles Oakley's footprint on the backside of his head.

It goes both ways. "Destroying" players in today's game is pretty standard because you can't really touch them. However with the salary cap in place there's no way for MJ to get the quality teammates he had before, esp. since he will be making 20M a year instead of the 7.5 per year he made before.

However as he admitted he also wouldn't be able to guard people like he did before, so his two-way game would suffer as a result.

His eyes must have been blood red during that interview, because there's no way. He was a prolific scorer, but I think our own Kevin martin gets to the line easier than he did.

Free throws are a major part of a high scoring average, obviously.

I do agree that today's game is a bit softer though. I miss the days of Chuck/Hakeem/Kevin Willis/Othella backing up every punk in the post until the shot clock was about to expire, and then dropping it in.

The game has changed. Lebron/Wade/Durant/CP3 and the Jazz get most of the calls they want with a mild acting job.

 

FYI artest broke jordan's ribs.

 

The game today is certainly less physical but I don't think Jordan could get to the basket as easily with the zone rules. They'd just zone up the lane the way they do to Kobe and then force Jordan to take jump shots. In the past, Jordan could beat his man and drive on a big man who was typically a legit 7 footer with limited quickness. In this league, even if Jordan gets by his man there'll be a quicker, smaller more athletic center (6'10" type guy) who'll be able to contest his shot better than a big slow guy. Today's league is a lot more athletic than Jordan ever faced.

 

I doubt he could score 100. I'd say he tops out at 75 imo.

It's possible that he gets over 81, but he wouldn't get close to 90 much less 100.
